I want to add him to a NEVER group with list, but I want to see what the jerk is saying about me in case i need to get a pantheon GM involved.
I bet all these people that want privacy use android phones with google photos and have alexa in their houses.... have tied all their social media accounts to pantheon via facebook, twitter and instagram. most people that complain about privacy are the most ignorant tech users. These people wanna talk about privacy, not actually BE private.
No one is talking about that kind of privacy except people making strawman arguments.

isn't it more about having the option of never having to deal with an individual in a nonconfrontational way?

No, you simply seem to be completely misunderstanding the argument being made.

Partially yes. Also simply being able to play on your own, undisturbed, for a period of time. Or being able to start over without baggage following you around.
Not everyone's baggage is due to their own bad actions, or anything they could control.

if i wanted to play undisturbed... why would i play an mmo? i agree with being able to start over without baggage. everyone deserves a chance to reform, even if your problems are habitual.

Not every time I play, but there are definitely days where I just want to focus on a specific task for an alt, or just have some me time, or whatever. I'm usually pretty social and outgoing, but some days I'm just not.
If I were forced to have all of my alts linked openly to one name, I would assuredly not be able to have me time.
This isn't a world-ending issue for me, but I do find the idea highly unnecessary and the reasoning behind it narrowly focused.

i gotcha. i'm in the same boat of keeping characters independent.
There is no reason a player should be hounded on a server for a bad reputation (which can be earned easily enough without being a troll or bad/negative/toxic player) no matter if they swap to alts or not.
There is no reason someone should be able to be bullied off of a server or out of the game, if someone is a negative player with a bad reputation then they will likely earn that bad reputation on all their characters with no need for players to be able to see what their account is. If they are *really* toxic players then VR will deal with it as the player can't hide and the reports will follow them.
How often do players want to play on an alt for some relaxed anonymity and to not be bothered or perhaps to just have a fully different "life"? FAR more often than players swap to alts for abusive reasons.

I agree. Topic has become toxic. Vote for closure.

Agreed.
<removes Vegemite from behind thread’s ears, inviting Kilsin the Drop Bear to settle things the outback way...>
How has the topic become toxic, if all we want is an account name to keep people incheck, plus like I said it isn't going to take 1 moment to define you playstyle on an mmo, for instance a ton of people are even gong t forget what you did the day before even if it was something really bad. You guys are buying into so much of this system able to ruin your repuation on an server, but honestly if you lost it you probably did it by yourself and community didn't have to help you lose it.
I simply just don't see these extremes happening and when they do I honestly see it backfiring on the person accusing the other player, because if the accuser is lying, than shouldn't the other people around there be able to back him up or at least the group he is in? Like I said people are sweating over things that just won't come to light for the most part and if you feel like it's getting out of hand and you need help there's a GM to help with those situations.

i'll be frank, i'm just sitting back watching you guys go at it. infamy is part of pvp so it really doesn't matter for me. it's favorable for all to have character independency than it is for all to have characters slaved to an account for a minority.

Account name visable will not keep people in check.
Account name visable will only allow more harrasement and more bad behavior plus not to mention character names will mean nothing and the chat will be a blur of SoandSO@Rodger. Allows for naming of characters the same as other people and is just not immersive.
Also this topic on account names has been talked about in the past and I'm not Bazgrim so I'm not a search pro but I remember it and also remember these same conversations.
The topic has gone off topic as a means to punish others vs knowing who everyone is and in a toxic way that really I don't think provides any benfit to the devs.
My last post on this.

The main thing I don't get for the anti-account people is the idea that we have to totally shield a person from any unwanted requests. You can have an option to "appear as offline". You can have the ability to set a "do not disturb" mode. That seems like more than enough to allow someone to play on an alt without being hounded by requests for help. If another player is unreasonably persistent and doesn't respect your desire to continue with your own plans, dealing with that seems like it should be part of playing a social game rather than something designed around to create a "safe space".

i'd play on a pvp server :D there is no safe space ^_^
i think it's more bells and whistles than needed. if the average time it takes to max level a character is around 6 months, i highly doubt someone is going to operate maliciously without intent. plus if i had account wide names, i'd hunt that person down anytime anywhere if they seriously wronged me. it's better for their sake that characters are independent from their accounts. if not, you'll better appear offline all the time. i will find you. i will kill you.

boom i've exploited the system.
Account issues in my opinion should be delt with by VR and only VR, my account and my characters are none of anyones business except MINE and VR's and though I don't play games to cause other people grief If I do make a mistake too many times the only people who should be pushing me off the server is VR.
too many issues can come from having all characters linked to one account for everyone to see, I'm sure it's been mentioned as I haven't bothered reading all posts in this discussion but getting bullied or harrassed off a server is not going to work out well. It doesn't even take a mistake for this to happen, maybe someone simply doesn't like you/me for whatever reason and they continue to harrass you/me untill you decide you've had enough and quit playing.
My account is MINE, it's really as simple as that. It's none of anyone business who my alts are. The people that matter will know who I am.
If you can see whose account I belong to, I want to be able to see what date you created your character, how long you've been playing (in game time) how long you've been at your current level. I want to see how many alts you have. How many servers you play on and what the level of your characters are.
I would also like to see an achievement system related to various dungeons and raids so I can determine if you're a decent player prior to inviting you.
Oh, and a gear score. Just give me a gearscore. Cause apparently this community is all about judging people based upon their previous actions as opposed to forming an opinion themselves....

How about you stay within the guidelines of the topic and not say a bunch of things that has nothing to do with the post.
And another thing the topic we are mentioning has absolutely nothing to do with gearscores, previous achivevements, or anything of the sort just a way to know you are you that's all we are asking.

You could literally go offline, or show offline to people who aren't your friends either way would literally fix most of these issues you are talking about.......yet again another problem fixed at a player level.
