Now that the class abilities have been revealed, have you changed your mind about what class/race combos you intend to play?
Although I have been pretty hard core about Dire Lords, I am afraid of the spike damage they may take. I definitely like the theme and abilities, so I will still main an Ogre Dire Lord.
But, I will probably make a Human Paladin as a backup. I like the abilities, theme, heavy armor, and Rez functionality.
Lastly, I will create a fun toon, probably a Gnome Summoner. I like the descriptions of the pets and utiliy of summoners.
This combination will also provide me a character on each continent, which may greatly help with trading.
Now, I just need to figure out what to make my Dark Myr.
Enchanter is still my clear pick. The streams continue to show a big importance on CC and how on point the CC'er needs to be to keep the group alive and keep progress efficient, always expecting the unexpected with plenty of wanderers and adds about. Loving the way charm is being robustly built upon on and how an enchanter syncs with other classes in a few different ways. VERY excited for this class!
Edit: And almost certainly Elven.. dunno why.. just because I always am. Must be the ears or something lol
I'll probably start out as a paladin, but I want to give Dark Myr a try, too - can't say no to intense lore, and I want to explore their city. I also want to try Druid. As well, I want to see the large pool of water and the maze outside Wild's End, so I'll definitely be making a halfling. I always say I am going to main druid, but I always end up trying different classes til I find the one I like. Heck, in Vanguard I was a sorcerer, and loved it. Maybe that'll be my gnome character - a wizard.
Anyway, I think those are my choices. For now.
I originally wanted to main a druid; a human druid. But since the class reveals, I'm suprisingly leaning towards playing a shaman (I'm liking the idea of a pet!). I'm thinking of doing an Archai shaman. I will definitely be exploring all the classes though, because I do like support and I DID main an enchanter in EQOA (which is different than this enchanter will be, but similar concept), so that's still a possibility. All in all, my mind did change after the class reveals, but whose to say it won't change again!
I will still be rolling a Dark Myr druid. I have a feeling w.e we pick will be getting changed throughout the expansions. So Picking the best race/class combo maybe a bad move when they nerf or take racials out that are just to onesided..or maybe add a racial passive to another race that wasn't ideal, but now is the most ideal.
My opinion has not changed in any way. No reason it should - I plan to try every class in the game that can be played by a race I can tolerate.
Obviously races are a very subjective opinion. I will not play any race larger than average - it blocks the view too much (I always play third person).
So whatever classes a human-sized or smaller race can play I will try. Why not - I am in no hurry to cap out and have nothing to do so while some of us race for high levels I will be exploring the starting zones in great depth. And the racial lore/backstories.
But past experience almost guarantees that I will focus eventually on caster or pet classes not melee classes. I am older and slower than I used to be and it is a lot easier to target an enemy from a distance than to try and get next to it without going through an area that does damage or aggroing something I don't want to face at the moment.
This game, even though familiar to the games of old, will likely have lots of different mechanics from what we are used to. I think I will largely stick with the 3 classes I have chosen to try initially and time will tell if I change. Really, all the classes look really cool and the races look fresh. So, I have a feeling I will start with the ranger, rogue or shaman and move from there to see if something calls to me.
It's really quite exciting. Seeing all the new reveals and becoming even more confused!!
I'm not settled on what I will main, but I know it will be one of the healers. I enjoy the nature themes of druid but not sure how I feel about having a pet - I like archai, dark myr, elf, and halfling all so race is undecided. Cleric could be alright, but I don't think I'd enjoy roleplaying one unless I could put them in clothes that are less... metal armor-y. And she'd have to be dark myr as I have no interest in playing a human or dwarf, so it would really depend on if I like the character creation of dark myr. Shaman for some reason doesn't feel like it has a well-defined core aesthetic in this game yet, so it's hard to really say, but she would either be an archai or an elf.
Other characters I'd likely make eventually would include dire lord (probably dark myr), ranger (either elf or halfling), enchanter (very curious about gnome character creation... could be awful, could be great), summoner (I REALLY wish archai could be summoners, ugh), and wizard (probably elf, maybe gnome). I would love to try a paladin, but I do NOT want to play as human or dwarf, so unless VR adds another paladin race, that is sadly a class I will never, ever touch. :(
I'll probably end up as a human paladin eventually, which I always tend to do. There's however a fairly big chance for once that I'll end up as something else, and that feels relieving.
100% sure of Direlord Dark Myr, unless Warriors are proven to be proefficient with all weapons and able to dish out interesting combos shieldless ! (Which would mean , Ogre warrior).

I couldn't agree more. I feel like the art of playing your role in an RPG has been lost over the years. It's more about "min-maxxing" and looking good on some kind of meter or parse. I'm definitely going to be trying out the Enchanter first as well. Making sure my team is supported, and doing my part to peel mobs off healers and keeping other things in check. I love playing support roles in RPG's, so this class was the one I was naturally drawn to first. After that, Cleric looks good as well.
I've wanted to go Dwarf cleric from the beginning so I'm going to stick with that.
I do plan on doing an Ogre shaman as I intend to help a friend level as well, they wish to play a Ogre dire lord. But most of my time will be spent on the dwarf cleric healing, I'll play with the ogre shaman until my friends ogre can start grouping up with my dwarf, at which point I will switch fully to the dwarf.
Not sure yet. I have to try out the classes first though. But it's pretty sure either a healer, a bard or a main crowed control class (warlock?). For clerics I'm always a bit afraid that they are boring healers without nice other (non melee) things to do. For the other healers I'm not sure, if they are capable to keep a group alive in a good feeling way. Healers in general will probably be enough around in the game. Bard is always a hard decision for me, cause I love the ranged types of bards but don't like the melee versions at all. And for the crowed control class it's the question, how much fun it's to play it. So I really have to try out all of them. And the races... I'm not a huge role player. For me race abilities and stats are more important, as long as they matter.
edit* Oh, there is no bard? Was sure I saw the class somewhere... never mind.
I haven't decided on anything yet. I'm hoping to see the descriptions of racial bonuses soon to help me to decide. I'm also wondering if the class/race combos are going to change at all. If the racial perks are ok I'll likely play a human as I always find that they look the best in gear.
I'm still up in the air. I may do halfling or archon- I thought I was sold on Dark Myr (I have salt water fish as a hobby- tank is 3 yrs old and may be adding corals/frags ), but I may end up as Human for the social aspect. As far as class, at first somethine not a caster, then summoners looked really cool but I was a summoner so maybe a pally, but then a shaman- maybe even a human ranger now- so hard!

I anticipate it to be very similar to when Blood DKs in WoW were first introduced. Alot ot similar style abilities, same concept. I suspect DireLords will be absolutely amazing in lower end group and solo content. Anything slightly above you on down and you'll crush it. But when it comes to raid tanking and higher end group encounters is where I expect to see the spikiness (I dont know if that's a word) become a problem.
I'm interested to see the final iteration of the tanks and healers and how they compare with each other though.

No in that I'm still going to play a Shaman but yes in that I'm switching from Ogre to Skar.
But ...

What happened that is causing you to deviate from #TeamOgre? I assume it's the rework for the Skar models? I guess we'll see what happens when the racial passives are finally revealed. =P

Pretty much yes, but also there are some additional factors that are coming into play:
1. No knowledge that Shrink (or equivalent) being avaiable to the Shaman. Having played a Troll Shaman in EQ1 I knew the importance of Shrink.
2. Uncertainty in differences in racial stats actually having palpable effects. I'm very much a min/max player, and I'm growing more certain that there will be no real difference in racial stats such that choosing your race is going to be mostly cosmetic.
3. No knowledge that Cannabalize (hitpoint to mana conversion) will be offered so if racial stats are not distinct enough that a benefit for having the highest base STA/HP makes HP-Mana conversion more attractive.
My final choice really is still up in the air, but as it stands right now Skar has the lead over Ogre. Heck, if there was a race that was bright pink with floofy feathers, googly eyes with one arm growing out of its butt while having highest base STA/HP, innate HP regen and Cannabalize existed..I'd play it. :) I play in 1st person exclusively so it isn't like I'd have to look at it. :)
