Gameplay You Want to See

What additional gameplay do you want to see in Pantheon?  Things other than combat.

Personally I'd like to see more downtime-based gameplay so that you always had something minor to do.  Warriors can sharpen weapons, rogues can disarm traps and unlock doors or make poisons to give to the other party members, rangers scouting ahead and setting snares or tracking a boss through the dungeon.  I would like it so that during downtime the group is actively preparing for the next combat or next group of combats rather than just sitting down.  These activities would need to require only a light amount of input from the players so that conversation wasn't impeded by the need to always be doing something but have even the smallest thing to do can keep the game engaging, especially when you find yourself in a mute group.

What do you want to see?

Also would be really sweet to see some type of card/board game. Maybe someone can fill me in on if card/board games are illegal in video games? I never understood why there wasn't some type of card/board game that people could play in taverns and even bet on them if they wanted with other players. I think because it has to do with gambling? Though again I have no idea. Hell it would be sweet to be able to carry a board/card game with you and when you're camping that extra rare spawn you could be playing with your company or maybe even have a solitary type of game lol...

However with that said. I would want none of the above to be put in the way of pure honest game play, I just feel it would add some more social aspects to our social game.

I've always wanted to see board games make their way into mmorpgs.  How fun would it be if you could actually play cards, chess or checkers in a tavern while you were waiting for your friends to get online.

There have been a few that have offered such content (the most prominent currently is final fantasy 14 where a casino/fair is offered with various mini games, a triple triad card game (ripped from one or several of the single player final fantasy games), and a racing circuit (which works sortof like a slightly less polished mario cart with progression and racing chocobo breeding) but you wouldn't like that game). Final fantasy 11 also offered similar things (player gambling and chocobo racing circut) and that also is no longer worth playing if you ask me. Point is that it has been and can be done so who knows? As for me, I have always had an interest in light (as in not 'too' complicated but still deep enough that your input matters) fishing mini-games to go along with gathering for something to do in my down time on my mmo.

I find that I agree with most of this.

Downtime shouldn't mean time not doing anything.

An indepth gathering system would also be nice.

A Diplomacy like system (Vanguard) would be great too!

I think you are missing the entire point of downtime.

Adding extra fluff just seems like needless waist imo.

Vanguard style crafting. That is the only MMO I've ever played where I've gotten really in to crafting. It was such an amazing system and so many of the choices you made during the process affected the outcome of the finished product. Oh and someday.. boats and PVP servers =D

I would love to see boats and also VG crafting and I only played it jsut before the servers came down. I even bought the collector's edition for the last week the servers were up... Totally missed out on that boat... lmao

Seeing the harbor in Khal with actual player boats docked around the ring was a sight to behold. Vanguard had some truly beautiful areas

The way I see it there are two types of downtime.  One is a system used by some games to limit how quickly certain content can be cleared.  Downtime usually takes the form of healers or mages needed to wait for mana to regenerate or tanks and dps waiting for health to regenerate.  The second is used to refer to the time that a player is not actively participating in any gameplay: while lfg, when thinking about where to go or what to do next, etc.

My point is that if a player doesn't feel like he can accomplish something or if he feels there is time being wasted he may log out or move on to another game altogether.  Slowing down how quickly content can be cleared is a good thing and plays directly into the delayed gratification mindset that we all want.  But without some activity to keep people engaged long wait periods will lead to players leaving the game.

Additionally which is more natural: the wizard saying he's tired during a crawl through a dungeon so everyone drops what they're doing and waits quietly for the wizard to feel better, or the wizard saying he's tired so the warrior and the cleric break out the playing cards while the rogue and ranger take advantage of the time to scout ahead?  Remember we're trying to build a living world, not an EQ simulator.

I was just speaking directly in a "between encounters" context. I would have no problem with things outside of groups to fill time. I would hate to create something though where you would be at a loss if you did not spend time sharpening swords or something like that. Its a fine line between giving fun filler activities and creating Non combat oriented grinding... "would love to join up with you guys but I really need to get this 20 minutes of sword sharpening done before I head out"...

I can definitely see where that would be a problem.  What I was referring to would be more akin to "ok the healer is oom, I'll spend 2 minutes to sharpen my swords so my dps goes up for the next 7 encounters."

I'm making a little RPG, I plan to make one of these downtime activities be maintaining a campfire. The campfire provides benefits like increased hp regen, etc. you can add firewood collection, various burn able mixtures, etc.

If I wanted pure twitch gameplay I'd play Halo, WoW, etc.

One crucial aspect that haunts my dreams is wandering through nature. The reason I played Oblivion so much is the vast landscapes. I LIKED not knowing exactly which direction to take to get where I'm going. Which way around that hill would be faster/safer. I love using the sun for direction sensing. I love stopping and, quite literally, smelling the roses, or at least looking at them up close.

Day night cycles would be crucial to this, as would some kind of reason to be out there in the first place, like resource harvesting, travel, exploration, etc.

If I'm trapped in "the mountain zone" or "the snow fields" I'll be much less immersed.

They are not the same as Rift shinies because Eq2 shinies were random - you did not know what part of the collection you were going to get. If you completed a collection you would get a reward.  Most of the time it was exp, but it could be a piece of gear, a house item...etc.  Not only did shinies encourage exploration, they:

promoted socialization: you could share/trade them with your friends  or you could sell shinies which then..

promoted the economy:  I made a lot of plat  on shinies that I did not trade to friends or use for alts. Bought them too.

Plus they were just damn fun !

A Diplomacy like system (Vanguard) would be great too!

My only problem with shinies is they were mostly irrelevant, and also very unimmersive.  Seeing shiny little objects all over was totally out of place in a virtual world.

you have every right to feel how you want about them we all have different opinions and that is okay.  I felt they were very closely related (relevant) to Eq2 for the following reasons:

-the subject matter of the shiny was related to the lore of everquest.  For example coldain relics and bugbear parts.

-The rewards were all used in game and some were highly desirable: house items, gear, cosmetic items, title, xp.

-They gave you a reason to go to a particular area in game.

-As I mentioned before, they were linked to the economy and social aspects of the game.

If you are talking about the fact that they "shined" I think it was okay in the virtual world of EQ2 considering I used magic, and rode a glowing unicorn that left frosted footprints through a forest of oversized flowers and mushrooms.  But again that is my opinion.
