I agree with Jobeson, really nice to see someome think out side the box. I also remember streams with rouges useing his skill to invis. while climbing. Groups climbing with weapons in hand as VR always said and it still holds true never say never. I beleave if the VR team can make fun encounters while climbing they will. If you can dream it put it in text and it works for the community?
Pantheon is still in development as Kyle Olsen AKA K.O. deleted hundreds of thousands of lines of hard code. Opening pilelines for the VR team, new, better, and faster tools made in house. Now with streamlined code and so much more is possable. It could lead to any thing and every thing.
Just for fun food for thought. Now that you can climb and say we have encounters while climbing. What can and can not be done? What wepons or skills can be used. will the skills still have full power or just half being casters can only use one hand so its now half strenth. While aways having lets say two of your limbs holding onto climbig serface at all times. Will a caster or a rouge now have a skill to make a small platform for a short time to nuke once or twice before it turns back to dust.
With out imaginination we would still be playing cards and horse shoes, watching moving pictures. You be you Jobeson hope to hear all your views and ideas in the months to come.

I'm really not sure what the OP is asking. But we were told that we WILL be vulnerable to attack while climbing, though of course anything can change. If we can be attacked, it seems reasonable to expect that we can also fight back. No Dev has yet said that we can, but none has said we can't either. It would seem to me that being 'immune' to attack while climbing would offer more opportunities for exploitation than being vulnerable.
Hello. Think for now climbing should be none combat engage. Folks will try to exploit combat climbing. Make a mob fall or get stuck or hide behind or around corners/ledge, etc. Though if one makes it near the top, just before making contact on the flat surface, they mob(s) may notice. You have to quickly climb up and find tactical positioning before the mobs have a chance to sense you/group.

I wasn't even considering climbing with a weapon as it seems strange. I assume/hope the animations are likely to change there. Closest thing to a weapon I would assume would be climbing picks assuming they exist in Pantheon climbing. Swiping, kicking, or grabbing a threat is all I imagine people would be able to reasonably do.
It would make for more interesting mechanic I think. No clue if they have anything planned for it, but say your target is fleeing up a wall to go warn other NPCs and you sprint, blink, charge, leap, etc after them to catch up. A generic mechanic to grab their ankle and pull him back down to the ground makes perfect thematic sense to me as a generic action to be able to do by everyone. In the same vein they may try to kick you back/down in order to escape. A giant fleeing lizard may swipe at you with its tail or something to that effect. (edit: meaning the gian't lizard could escape from the generic attempt to stop a climbing creature by automatically swaying its tail to knock you back before you can get in range to do anything.)
You may have some supreme ability prepared for this very situation to knock a target off a wall in cool ways or simply be a wizard who can burn their health down fast enough as they are a sitting duck while climbing. Neither of those options would be severely impacted by people having a generic option to use while climbing if they managed to catch up to a target.
I like the idea of being harassed by angry crows while climbing as one of many simple obsticals for various areas to deal with while climbing. (edit: Especially if tied to harvesting their eggs. Death by critter :D)

They mentioned in the streams of having spells/abilities that will stop climbers. From crashing into the wall / tree to shake them off, knock backs, pull type spells, etc. I am hopeful to see a few options to hinder people climbing for everyone, but we have no idea when we will see these spells them. The most useful climber stopping spell for your class may be granted at lvl 45 and you need to have it at lvl 3 mastery to stop climbers. On that thought process I am bringing up generic options, which I have not seen or heard anything about. Lets say we are lvl 5 where you run after a person climbing and all you can do is watch them climb up while you hit them in the foot. As a game that scenario is entirely possible even though it may be a bit silly. I am hopeful they have generic mechanics to stop climbers planned but if not I hope it is something they consider.
The secondary option of swiping at things just seems interactive/fun. I like the idea of climbing up a tree to harvest eggs. Harvest the rare flower growing on the mountain side if you have the stamina to do so... try not to fall... Swipe at the angry bird whos nest you are stealing from. Try to kick away the giant spider whos web you just disturbed. So many cool potential options to do while climbing.
edit: Lastly in terms of trying to use it to lure creatures up to then knock them off, I would assume many / most creatures would be too smart for this, but I like the idea if you could trick them in some way. Like you know its common one NPC will try to flee and run up the wall to alert the others of their faction, so you leave a PC up there to throw rocks down at them to finish them off.
