Maybe they need to start putting a spoiler alert at the beginning of any section that might contain information that could be percieved as such? Or maybe just skip the Under Wraps section, since that section seems to detail what is going on behind the scenes. Not trying to be cute and say "Just don't read it" but some people do like getting details which helps keep them excited about the project.
Idealist or realist - Creatures will thrive in their environment. They gave away the "what is", not the "how-to".
I figure your going to see some text during battle that will highlight this... "You feel slightly Gloomly in this area." go down a level in the dungeon "Darkness reeks in the bowels of this place."
Small trade off when trying to sell the game. The how-to is what to keep secret.
I want start a non-spoiler "tavern" fan site. Where you can go to learn of rumors of things in Pantheon. Stuff that you would naturally pickup in the world if you were casually asking in a tavern. Somewhere where player can go, when they want a little help, but don't want spoilers. Again it takes a village. it would be fun to do.

That would be awesome, I sometimes need a nudge but generally speaking when you look up something it turns into a full blown push.
You remember the book? The book that came with "that old game". Thick, it was, well thicker than most. It gave basic instructions and what to look out for as well as hints as to what classes do- general hints.
It had some rudimentry maps of newbie cities. and some cool art of the gods, n stuff. A general overview and what things meant like, eating and drinking. To be honest I was so excited I read only half, then jumped in. about a year in, I then turned ot the bakc pages and found lots of other useful information I wish i had known earlier- heh- but I was easy on myself for my initial ehtusiasm.
Even stuff that players showed me in game, was also spelled out in that instruction book. It also influenced my class decision as it said, there will be people, lots of people, and if you choose this class, you are a group yourself! which appealked ot me at the time because I was shy and wasn't sure who these "people" were, or what expectations they might have from me as a player, so being a mini group of myself was appealing.
I see it as basic game information kind of thing. Like the death penalty, it said death penalty and you're body would appear back at the spires. Well starting out my corpes popped by some trees in toxx forest, a bit aways from the entrance. I didnt know what spires were. Then about 7 months later, another newbie was there and I was helping them and they said, oh yea the spires, over there- and he was pointing to that area by the trees. There were no spires, not in the forest, but he, like me, thought that general area in the forest was called "the spires" and were happy. But then I showed him the bind my soul person and said THIS is spires and he was like "oh.." and then we talked about how handy it was to be in one place and safe in a city and that there are soulbinders in all cities etc etc. then I offered to travel with him as a chaperone by boat to the next city, for which he thanked me becuase there were more people! I mean people people, like to gropup with and make mistakes and learn things. I also gave him a paw that summoned temporary fireflies so he could see at night, for which he thanked me profusely, as our race had such poor eyesight, runing at night was scary let alone in a dark dungeon with new people you are trying to impress that seem to vanish when they turn a corner because you dont know the way.

@trasak: So all you are saying is you like to be hand fed.

This is a very infantile response. I could just as easily say if you don't like my post don't respond to it. :P

Took my so long to install the game and turn play rounds with my brother, I did read it three or more time even before really getting into play.
For the vast majority of pantheon subscribers, this information will still be unknown as most won't be reading news letters every month, or have their eyes glued to these message boards. The downside to being so involved at this early stage is that you are necessarily going to have some insight as to game mechanics. I personally was very excited to hear about this new tidbit of news.
I read the forums, I watch some of the videos (limited) and I read some of the news letters.
At any moment I think they are giving too much info, I stop reading.
I likely won't even play beta of this game because I have done alpha/betas for around 20 years of these games and I am tired of learning things beforehand.
So, how much I choose to learn about the game is on me. Only those who continue to read in detail are at fault if they get too much information.
Don't want spoilers, don't read about the details of the game.
Fact is, most who complain about this stuff will likely read hint sites when the game is released unfortunately, so it is all wasted objection.

I don’t think of playing Alpha/Betas as learning things ahead of time. At least so far, VR does not usually give out unique information before we have a chance to play in the Alpha/Betas. So, when playing the pre-release events, you still have to learn the game, discover areas, and learn strats. There may be Enhanced-XP, but you have to restart your character enough times that you effectively spend more time leveling than you would normally after release.
I look at pre-release testing as my first character. Then, after release it’s really my second character.
For me, testing phases are part of the game. Under this premise, I will know more about the game than a new starter. This will be an advantage, yes. But, I will have earned the advantage through years of studying and testing the game.

I like the new experience of a game for the first time. I am done with it being that of testing a half finished game before release and then repeating it again when it is finally released. I understand the part a tester may play, but todays testers are just random fodder being thrown at an engine. Long gone are the days of a alpha/beta tester filling out long reports on bugs and features in order to stay as a tester (not that EQ alpha/beta was this). Point is, myself and my friends are content to just sit by and let this one pass on by in terms of testing. Either VR will hit its mark, or it won't and I don't think myself or my friends will have any sway on it.
I think you should have some general information. You were not hatched into an adventurer. Growing up your heard stories and rumors about the world around you. Your had mentors you would have some general knowledge of some magic and the legends of mysterious places.
There will be plenty of mystery interwoven into the systems. I wonder how colored magic will affect atmospheres. What insight you may gain when you get a ping from the perception sytem. This would be cool, as a player would need to be there using magic with that atmosphere to get the ping from preception, In turn providing more information, perhaps more skill. Will this be how horizontal leving works?
