Absolutely love the direction of this game. My thoughts

I discovered Pantheon 2 days ago.  As a huge EQ gamer/fan back in 2000, I was instantly drawn to Pantheon. After 10 minutes of researching it and discovering the Devs and philosphy behind it, I went to the website and became a pathfinder pledger.

I then watched several pre alpha videos and came away thouroughly impressed. Here are the incredible highlights for me that I hope makes it to the final release.

     1. The quadtrinity - Healer, Tank, Damage dealer, Crowd Control. I can't say enough about how amazing this is. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My main was an enchanter in EQ and I loved CC'ing mobs, putting haste on the melee and mana regen on the casters. Multi pull fights were so intense

2.Each skill/spell has modifiers based on your stats allowing you to differentiate your character by gear. What a cool idea to replace the terrible "talent" trees of past MMOs

3.Multi level dungeons. Courtyard great for level 20 groups. Ramparts great for level 30 groups. Lvl 20's can look up and see the 30's and think "I can't wait till I can join the big boys up in the ramparts. Absolutely love this.

     4. Non linear dungeons. Your group fights its way to an area in the dungeon and then would "camp" that area for experience and specific loot. Sometimes all day long. I remember back in EQ camping for the FBSS (for those that never played EQ, FBSS was an item called tFlowing Black Silk Sash... a belt that gave you a slightly faster attack speed). I camped that thing for weeks and through all that time, I was able to meet new people and develop friendships, some that still last to this day, 17 years later. I can't express enough how important this is from a community building standpoint.

     5. Reputation will matter. Unlike today's MMO's with it's multi server dungeon finders with linear progression. You don't even need to talk. You race through the dungeon, kill the boss, collect your loot then run it again with 4 new players. If you were a jerk, no worries, you'd never see the same players again. Hell most of them weren't even on your server.  In EQ, reputation mattered.  I remember logging into EQ and getting spammed with messages "Hey, welcome back, care to join us in Old Seb/Lower Guk/Karnos castle etc"... Was an amazing feeling and it really encouraged people to become the best they could be.

Anyways, those were just the highlights I noted. I am so excited for this game. Please stay true to your philosphy.

Don't have much to add, but just want to say welcome! I agree with mostly everything you've written and a lot of us are looking forward to re-experiencing the charm of older MMOs and are hoping Pantheon will be able to capture that spirit in a refreshing way.

They need to work on the quaternity aspect a little more.  It annoys me greatly that a role such as Support is right included as a pillar of the game, but they currently only have ONE freaking class that truly fills that role, the Enchanter.  They need at least three to bring it up to par with the rest of the quaternity group (DPS, Heals, Tank).  Obviously the Bard, at some point, will fill a second Control option, but they need a third option to give a nice mix of choices.  Maybe they design the Necro in that direction, maybe not.

I agree with this. At least 3 that can fill the role as CC/Support. Bard, enchanter and Necro would be good. Any idea if necro will be a class?

Pretty sure necro will be, but unlikely (i think) to make it by release.

Yeah man, Necros are confirmed, even the gear in game right now has Necro tags affixed to it.  We just don't know if they will make it in by launch, and whenever they do make it in, what type of class they are going to be (DPS, Support).

    Welcome Evade.

I know you excited but trust me, so on you will be hoping you would have found this game 6, 8, maybe even 10 months later. The wait for this great game is very painful from everyone here. But they doing it right and taking their time. Get yourself a rocking chair and popcorn and just relax.

Going to be good, but still got a ways to go. Haha.

My understanding is that there are other classes that can fill that role, like rogues are a CC class to an extent with their smoke bombs I think that was in the second or third stream? the rogue was doig some CC in a rogue-ish way, granted not as pure as a chanter- but CC nonetheless. What I liked about that is that a chanter is not crucial. Like the all gnome group thatw as successfull on the ramparts in BRK in one stream.

With Language barriers and isolated starting cities I think it will give some immersion at early levels as to how the race plays with discovery -very much like broadening ones horizons when traveling to foreign countries and experiencing other cultures- in learning how to play with other races and classes and their abilities. Not that one is perfect, but more options are available to accomplish the same goal and lack of one should not hinder the completion of the goal. However insistence on one particular class may be considered a assesment of playerability, against the one who insists; when other player options are available-dependent on the age. If one has not travelled outside of thronefast, one cannot expect the Humans to know the broad and deep ways of the Ogre. Likewise the ogre would be fascinated- and find themselves like a newbie again even at higher levels in discovery through interaction with humans while they look for that puny humans relative in that dungeon while they learn their ways and learn how to play with humans with their abilities and scratch their heads why humans are so concerned about litter mates for litter mates always compete for that brother ogre's food untill the litter mates die.

    Welcome.

If you are like me you will find that even without a game to play having these forums to read and post in is a great benefit. Apart from the entertainment value there is always the chance that some opinion we give or fact we mention may actually affect development of the game. People from VR *do* read these forums and do listen. Our collective opinions have affected their plans before and doubtlessly will again.

Do not get too excited too early or you will burn out. Pantheon will, with a high level of probability, not be released next year. Some of us hope for 2020 but this is far from a certainty. Adopt as a mantra that a very good game after a painful wait is better than a crappy game in 6 months. If they release too early it will die. To put it a bit differently in terms of the game's life cycle. Better to be late than to become "the late".

Do not be surprised when  you see great and heartfelt differences of opinions on these forums, often pursued with inadaquate courtesy to other forum members. Almost all of us want many "old school" features from the early days of MMOs but we disagree enormously among ourselves when it comes to any particular feature. Even a casual glance through existing threads will demonstrate this beyond possibility of doubt.

Necro as crowd control makes sense. I hope to play one a day cast a "scared stiff" spell stopping the bad guys in their tracks.

Welcome! Pantheon cought my attention last year, finally saved up enough money to pledge myself! looks like i'll be seeing you in Alpha once it opens up!

I too miss MMO's like EQ and look forward to Pantheon. The MMO genere has been rather stale for many years now.

Yea I can see that. Perhaps Chanter will be the greater of the cc, while Necro is capable of both some cc and dps.

awesome! Congrats on alpha. As I’ve only been here a couple days I haven’t read much on the alpha discussion. Any idea when it’ll come out? It’s currently pre alpha version 4 right? Is that the last or will there be a 5th?

I think they were initially projecting alpha to start at the end of 2018. Then some things changed course a tad (can't remember what) and now I think they are projecting early 2019 for alpha. But I could be wrong.

Yeah Necro had some good CC in EQ, Screaming Terror line of spells was a straight mez that I would keep up when we didnt have a chanter around and we werent in the wide open spaces for fear.  I'm down for the same sort of basic but better than most CC on Necros in Pantheon, I still would preference a necro as a utility / damage dealer more than a straight CC kind of class.  Really interested to see where they take the class!

    Welcome to the forums Evade!

I'm not really sure honestly, I did read in the past they were targeting this December but they just recently entered phase 4 PA, I'm pretty sure there was talk of a 5th PA, I've only really read speculation I think lol, I've never really seen anything regarding how many phases PA would contain but I do think they missed their planned target for December 2018 which is very easy to do in the greater scope of things.

I heard in discord PA5 will add crafting. This was word of mouth and I think it was mentioned in a recent stream? Can anyone confirm?
