I have watched a number of the streams and they look awesome!!! but i have to wonder where are the froglocks?? Guk and Seb where some of the most iconic and dynamic dungons in EQ. So please lets bring them along to pantheon.
I am hoping others agree with me on Seb/Guk being 2 of the best dungons and the froglocks are just cool.
They were ripped and dropped into WoW. Seriously though.....bring them back. I love dem locks.
((This isn't Everquest. Let Pantheon and its world stand on its own, please.))
Yes. Taking good game elements is one thing - blatantly stealing things purely for nostalgia runs the dual risk of a trademark/copyright lawsuit or making Pantheon seem like merely a two-bit rip-off with no originality. Neither of these things is good. Just let the froglok idea croak.
I don't see the problem something similar can't exist in Pantheon. They can be called something else. Mudlocks,Swamplok, whatever. I think you're getting hung up on the name. Its just a frog race.
@Bronsun Yea I agree. Anyway, I don’t see a problem with similarities. Ogres, Halflings, Gnomes, Elves, Humans, Dwarves, some classes etc were in those games too. I realize this isn’t a copy/paste of EQ, but the similarities are pretty fun. Brad did also make Old EQ and VG, so I can see many things like an npc-frog race returning. I enjoyed the recent community/dev stream and learned that Joppa played on Sullon Zek - was a fun server. I’m looking forward to seeing the different server types in Pantheon :)
Playing as a Froglock and Ratonga in EQ2 was amazing, they were genuinely my favorite races (Ratonga masterrace, though, obviously). I doubt we'll see them in Pantheon as playable races (and in the case of Froglocks will probably not see them at all), but I'll always enjoy those memories. And that's okay, Pantheon is doing its own thing, even if the non-human races aren't as interesting to me compared to those games (EQ/EQ2).

Rat men were seen in the streams with one of the dungeons, amberfaet or halnir, cant remember which. So they were profiled in a recent newsletter. They dont seem like they'll be playable thats for sure.
With all the anthro races in VG I'm kinda surprised we dont see any in Pantheon...raki and vulmane were fan favorites

I don’t believe that anything is being stolen though. Brad M. made EQ and Vanguard afterall. Other Pantheon devs played EQ&VG too. Plus, things like Gnomes, Dwarves, Wizards, and Frogloks have been in more games than just Everquest and Vanguard. I don’t see any problem imo with similarities.
Just to be clear I was thinking of the playable race, and noting that the suggestion used the word Froglok it was not merely a suggestion to have froglike entities.
Taking the word Froglok would make it obvious that there was an attempt to refer to Frogloks in specific not merely to frogs or froglike beings. The concept of a froglike being is not something EQ can have a claim to. The concept of "Froglok" is another matter - they may or may not have a trademark on that name.
Now pandas are another story. I could write a detailed legal treatise pointing out the enormous risk to VR to having a panda playable race.
I would be lying through my teeth but I would do it anyway just to avoid the horror of Pantheon pandering to such low elements.

They don't seem so cute and cuddly anymore.
I hope "Frogloks" make it - in an expansion and are out of the way. They do not need to be named "frogloks". Let's face it, when we do discover the frogs we all will subconciously compare them to our past experiences whether in EQ or EQ2. This is just human nature. You can give a tip of the cap and still make it special. We do not need SMRs and Yaks. It is not even possible is it?
I mean - you can only do something once.
Good times.
