I would like to make a request, you paying attention Kilsin?
Please make sure we have the bio box on our character sheet, so when people inspect us they can read it. I always enjoyed that, I think about 5% used it for a bio. The rest of the people put guild tags, smart ass remarks, or other useless information. Was always fun to see that, could tell alot about a player in those few sentences.
Raidan said:+1 to this feature and the ability to /toggleinspectoff. I remember people respecting others by "asking" to inspect also. Just one of many simple features that is often overlooked that adds more depth.
If i want to look at what you're wearing I shouldn't have to ask for permission. That seems silly.
I can see that being commonplace on a RP server, but I hope not on normal servers.

The problem with the boxers or briefs game is sometimes you find a commando.
Joking aside I would rather have inspect only show your public Bio/LFG Data/PantheonHarmony data and nothing to do with your character. Its no-one else's business what I'm wearing. Maybe you can see someones HP by selecting them but otherwise what you see is all you get. And even what you see should be pretty customizable either through tabards or player crafted gear, only iconic npc dropped items will be directly recognizable and the stats known.
My personal preference is to turn the "bio" section into a full fledged profile. Allow players to customize this section however they want. Someone can tell a story about themselves ... list their accomplishments, do a little roleplaying, whatever. I provided some examples on what this could look like a bit back but I can't upload those photos to this website. I do believe the plan is to allow players the option to disable others from being able to inspect them. There has been plenty of debate on that topic but I'm pretty happy overall with that plan, assuming nothing has changed.
If anybody wants to see what I'm talking about feel free to PM me in Discord. 1AD7#7153 -- I was a roleplayer back in the day and I did some photoshop work to show what a customized player profile could look like in Pantheon. It would be a really cool feature IMO.

Something like TRP but built into the game from the start would be fabulous.

haha... I actually forgot about that.

I totally agree. I think it's silly too. But for some people it was an issue.
The reason people asked permission in EQ1 is because the game would actually notify you went somebody was inspecting you. You'd get a little text notice in your chat that says 'soandso is inspecting your gear' or something like that. There were many players that would get upset and start screaming at you if you inspected them without asking. Or they would run away from you, since you could only inspect them if they were right in front of you and if the person moved away the inspect window would disappear.
I think some of it was the desire to remain anonymous. If you turned on anon in EQ1 your class and level would not show up when somebody used the /who command to view online players in the zone. But if they saw you there, they could go 'inspect' you to see what gear you were wearing, which could indicate your class and/or level based on the specific gear you had. So an anon flagged person would definately frown on random people coming up and 'inspecting' them to find out what class they were.

It was a sign of respect back then. This was 20 years ago!! :) Times were different and loot wasn't dropped like crazy. So when someone had a different looking item or armor than most, you were interested in what it was. Sometimes they would let you inspect and other times they would say no. Or they would move away from you (inspecting had a radius). Inspecting someone without asking was like being that annoying little brother, just get away from me!

Damn, it really has been 20 years. Lol! The nostalgia lol. Heck, I don't mind asking. But yea, a sign of respect for sure.
Sarim said:Tbh I still think the best way would be to allow inspecting, and simply NOT notifying the player being inspected. What they don't know, they can't be annoyed about...
Exactly. This has merit if you are on a roleplaying server. But in this day and age one of the ways players learn about the game is by seeing what other people are wearing and looking up that item. Much like some of the other ideas floating around, I just don't see the benefit of not being able to do this.
I know this sounds silly but changing something as little as this where the player is no longer alerted that they're being inspected is a slow slide toward non-player interaction. I think these are the subtleties that perhaps get overlooked and seem mundane on the surface. But in reality, whenever I would get inspected in EQ it gave me the feeling that someone took interest in me and sometimes it would allow spontaneous conversations with a stranger.
Haha. I'm sorry, I understand people have different thoughts on stuff but if your annoyed that someone is inspecting you! I always say like what? You think you are Prince or something? Like we have to turn our heads when you walk down the east common tunnel? That is what it is... I'm just looking at you, not like I could dig through your bags. I'm just busting balls, but I honestly never understood why people got upset about it, just me. If I recall didn't they change that where you could not inspect if they had the /roleplay tag on??

Yes!!! It's the little things that add up. When those wood elf or dark elf women would inspect me, "Do you like what you see?" Roleplaying my sly Bard of course ;-)

As a roleplayer, depending on the character I may be currently playing, yes it could be seen as disrespectful or rude. I mean, in real life would you walk up to someone you didn't know who was standing nearby in a coversation and start eyeballing their clothing closely? Yes, yes, us role players are weird like that. Asking is as polite in a game as it is in the real world.
"Hello, I love your jacket. What is it and where did you get it?" is much more polite than walking up behind me, yanking my collar down and reading the brand without saying anything to me as I stand there in shock that someone just touched me without permission.

I'm a roleplayer as well, and I don't find inspecting people to be intrusive at all. I also disagree with your comparison, considering the person you're inspecting in a video game doesn't even know you're doing it (as opposed to your wild example of a real life assault on your privacy).

So you didn't play EQ then? Anytime a player inspected you, you received a message saying they were doing so. Coming from UO, I had no idea if someone was stealing something from my backpack or not. Lol

No, I didn't, but I'm not sure why you'd think someone was stealing from your backpack when they're just inspecting you. xD

In UO a player inspecting you could open you backpack and make pickpocket rolls to be un noticed, seeing things as you stored them and could also attempt to steal them. I think they could even put items in them including explosive flasks ignited.
Sincz uo has a full backpap volume with items dragged and dropped in, people used big items to mask bags and content as thieves couldn't move items withouth making a roll check.

Yeah in Ultima Online, players could peek into your packs and take anything you were carrying if they had high enough skill... You only knew they were doing this when they failed their skill check. So people standing around me and inspecting me set off alarms (until I figured out you could not pickpocket other players). It was the wild west back in the day ;-)
