Local-only banks - how could that change things?

One thing people seem to forget about this banking issue is faction. What good would a global bank system be if, due to faction, you can't access the bank in the city nearest you?  You decide to play a Skar and you're adventuring near the Halfing city. Do you think the Halflings will just let you wander into town to buy from their merchants and use the bank?  Doubtful.  There might not be any way you could raise that faction high enough to use the bank.  What then?  A global bank quickly become a local bank.

I'm not sure about local banks but regional ones I can get behind. Regional banks might be able to facilitate commerce and trade, especially in local markets as long as distance matters and travel is not trivial. People can profit from arbitrage and selling convenience.

Regional is an interesting idea, possibly with some form of delay to retrieve built in.  Otherwise one could ship their items to another major bank given a certain amount of time and expense.

Well if you have a local/city bank it pretty much acts as a regional bank....?

It would more be like Thronefast Royal Trust has its main branch in Thronefast but the Kingdom itself has smallers towns and villages spread through out its realm.  Each of those towns could have a branch of Thronefast Royal Trust that you could have your deposited items delivered to you for a fee or could accept new items.  Additionally there might be remote or neutral cities that actually have branches for more than one regional bank in them that you could actually transfer items too and from.

Having multiple banks to store gear aurmour might be neat for a specific zones enviroments where specific gear is a must without needing to travel across the world to a bank.

I am curious if these would be rewards for gaining reputation with a faction or group of allies?

I have not played a game that has had this design it does sound interesting so im not really for or against it.

I am 100% in agreement that local bank item deposits should act like deposit boxes in RL. Local access only. I am also in favor of offering global monetary transfers for a small fee similar to ATM’s. I am also in favor of offering interest income. And Short Term Deposit interest income. Lets make banking a real thing for once.

I see this as an expansional thing based on popularity of certain banks. However even with a dynamic banking environment i would still keep local deposit boxes only accessable at the local bank. This could be a fun dynamic event to make a certain bank a worldwide bank based on popularity.

Faction should definitly be a determining factor. Or the ability to sneak/hide and bank. I remember in EQ1 i was able to bank/merchant in Sol A as a rogue at the goblin area and that was awesome to me.
