Speaking of Gnomes, I'm interested to see how Gnomes are going to be customizable with gear. It seems like you can change their color already (or is the yellow/purple male/female?) but how the gear will be worn on the model is going to be cool to explore.

I want to know how they survive without a tank.

    Endless roots?

I wanted to play the gnome because I really, really loved the EQ gnomes, but if I'm completely honest, I'm not a big fan of the gnome appearance in Pantheon. I may change my mind later. All my mains were small races. Halfling Druid, Dwarf Warrior and Necro Gnome. :D

I can see where you are coming from. The gnome does appeal to me quite a bit in this game though because it is something different and mysterious. I'll probably start with a Gnome.

Last we knew, race/class restrictions aren't currently in game yet for testing purposes. The models are pretty much just cosmetic for now. So one of them was probably playing a tank class.

I was excited to see this, because I saw this as being an accidental (which makes it super cool) and emergent level of immersive gameplay.

as a new player, with everything being new (and on a pleasantly draconian one-player-only server that effortlessly implies reputation preservation unless learned to late, then too bad haha) the race you choose you are bound to for the rest fo the game. As that race you learn what it is to be that race (armchair cultural immersion) and succeed as that race with other racial members.

Making the joy of meeting another race (armchair travelling cultural immersion) and learning how THEY do things differently than you and all that entails like strange foods, "taking in the air, there", nuances of behavior and emotes or emoted animations- a Huge and broadly impactful part of gameplay.

"The gnomes they are a silly race, they fight with their fingers and pull with their face!"

Baz is probably right.  But once the Summoner gets put in the game, I think it would be really cool for a group to try this with only the actual classes Gnomes can play.  The enchanter and summoner can work together to tank the mobs (earth elemental + charm).  Obviously it would be much more difficult/slow, but it could be fun!

Gnomes will rule the world one day.

I know it's a design decision and already in place.  But I highly doubt I'll play a gnome at all in this game because I don't like the appreance at all.  Personnal opinion.  However, if there were a way to turn off the glowing of a gnome I'd change my mind.

Awesome. I'm sure I will make one as well. The customizing feature may change my mind.

It goes without saying that I love seeing all the different races grouping together, but one of the really cool things was seeing players grouping as one race in MMO's. Not only was it visually funny sometimes, but culturally speaking it makes the world interesting and more realistic in the way you see a society stay together because its familiar or safe. I dig that all the races have the classes needed to enable this ability.

Perhaps the gnomes could have a steampunk twist on them?

If you are a fan of playing gnomes, I would assume you would have strong opnions on their appearance.

I would hope they possibly add a body/face variant on gnomes that would give you an visual option choice.

For example, Southern Gnomes and Northern Gnomes. Identical in all ways, just a completely different apperance.

Because I for one, am not a fan of the current gnome "face". It's a bit too space alien for my taste and does not seem to be following the sword and sorcery fantasy theme.

Gnomes have mastered the arcane and are beyond your mundane technology.

It's safe to say that Gnomes will have multiple masks available in the character creator. Especially if you consider that every piece of artwork featuring gnomes has had a different mask. How much you can customize the face or the body remains to be seen however...

I read or heard somewhere that they want the character creator to have as much depth as any other modern MMORPG, so if that's the case then we may see quite a bit of customizability.

I'm in for a mask builder at character creation instead of face choices.

Edit: Thoughts written in a blurry way.

It might be nice to have both 'generic' gnomey options for mask /BP etc and also mix in class based 'looks' too.
Thus a wizzy Gnome will look different from the same option on a rogue gnomey - beyond the weapons etc... If you consider the mask comparable to clan type markings, this will act to make them less 'samey' but also retain a 'class similarity' thread running through them.

Evoras, thinks it may help spotting the ones that taste bad...
