Scenario: A random stranger runs straight past you and essentially trains you, they don't warn you or say sorry and then they leave the zone. You don't have any way to get back to your corpse - What do you do? #PRF #MMORPG #MMO #communitymatters

Boy, Kilsin! Keep crackin' open those can o' worms! I kid, I kid. Anyhoo... since I typically wouldn't want a game to ruin my day, I would chalk it up to the risk of being in a player environment. Wrong place, wrong time--that sort of thing. I may send a joking tell to the person thanking them for the train and asking if they could help retrieve my corpse. But since it is not--sucks to be me! However, if the person doesn't respond and is not sorry, and continues to train myself or others, then it turns into an entirely other matter. Malicious intent comes to mind. At the end of the day, real life has its own set of problems and drama. I would rather choose my battles wisely and enjoy my game time. But that's just me.

Hope some guildies are around to help corpse recover. If not, /who and hope someone tougher than me can help corpse recover. Hopefully Necro's will be able to summon a corpse when they appear in game!

Take note of the name of the trainer for future reference.

    Life goes on...move along now...

No way to get it back at all?

    (1) Thank the devs for a trully meaningful death penalty.

    (2) Take more care on 'incoming' the next time I'm stood at a zone line.

    (3) Write a frustrated feedback ticket to the devs for including zones in the game.

Trains will always be a part of an open world game. So, you find a group of friends or guild mates to fight your way back to your corpse, or you call on your friendly neighborhood Spiderman, I mean Necromancer to summon your corpse for you.

Call on friends to help me get my corpse. If my friends are unavailable, I will call on people around me to help. Final option, I will petition to see what can be done.

Assuming the corpse is indeed retrievable:

    1) Ask a rogue (stealth) or monk (FD) to pull my corpse

    2) Ask a necro to summon (if able)

    3) Ask my friends to form a group to help me retrieve it.

    4) Ask in public chat for help.

    5) If none of the above are available, hope/pray VR has implemented a graveyard type system, and wait out the timer.

As for the offending train creator, depending on the circumstance of how it happened, I would:

    A) Send him a tell reminding him to call out trains in /shout or /ooc

    B) Chalk it up to rotten luck; say nothing and move on.

    I would not:

    I) Hold a grudge or blacklist the player.  We've all done stupid things at some point.

II) Berate the offending player in public chat.

III) Be a jerk about the situation, unless it was for some reason intentional.

Don't know. Step one is to determine if it's intentional or not. We all have pulled a mob and get 6, forcing us to run for our lives. We all have tripped over someone else killing mobs as we run for our lives. I guess I would call out the player and his guild if I get no response from the player for not hitting a "Train warning" macro button on the hotbar (another reason for hot-bars for misc stuff not spells). Next, call on guild and friends out of guild to help rez. Failing that, maybe submit a ticket. I never played EQ so I am unsure of what a Necromancer does.

There really are those types of people in the world that concider an mmorpg to be "just a game". Not as true for those like me that are in X,Y,Z location for a specific reason. My time has value even in a program, somebody stole that time from me. I let it slide if it happens only once. More than once, then it is definately malicious and I will EXPECT the ticket that I submit to be expedited. If someone intentionally ruins your car paintjob by pushing a shopping cart into it at the mall, you do not say " oh well, its just paint" and carry on like nothing has happened.

Some of these responses bring some questions to mind for this hypothetical....

How did I get some pllace, where I could be trained, by myself that I couldn't get back to?  Especially as a Rogue since that is the only class that I play.  This train implies that I am somewhere near a zone line.  That means that it should be much easier for me to do the zone in/loot/zone out game.  The zone line shouldn't be popluated by those mobs forever.  Zone lines are USUALLY relatively safe areas compared to other locations so that you don't get mob-jumped on zone in.  If it's due to environmentals, then something like that can be handled via potions if you have them stored in your bank.  It might be handy to keep a set "just in case".

As for intent of the person that trrained me, I would worry about that after I got my stuff back.

I would need you to explain why "You don't have any way to get back to your corpse". You obviously got there in the first place so there's nearly always a way to get back.

Use invisibility if you have it.

Follow/join another group going back in.

Ask if somebody can rez or drag for you.

    Necro to summon of course.

If none of those work.. then why?

Slow time of day? Go play an alt and come back to it later. When a guildie logs on or during a busy time of the day/week.

The only other reason I can think of would be a mechanical design reason like my body fell through the world or the zone was level locked and I couldent get back in... if THAT'S what you mean by "You don't have any way to get back to your corpse". I would /petition a GM.

AND I would look closely at how I got trained in the first place... Was I standing on the tracks?

Edit: I would only report the Training player if it was obviously intentional. Mistakes are going to happen, and we will likely all find ourselves running for our lives... I hope.

My likely scenario as to why this happened:  I would be in the bottom of a shared dungeon, occupied by other groups.  I would afk for a split second (or two) because of #wife, and my group would decide to disband and gate back to town.  I would come back, alone, with a train from the next group over bearing down upon me, leaving my broken corpse stuck in the bottom of the dungeon, with no group to help out.

That is precisely how you get into these situations.  One is tempted to lay immediate blame where blame is due (the wife), but you are keen to remember that she is a lvl 100 raid boss with 300 meter death touch PB AOE.  Best to avoid and instead turn your ire to the hapless group or individual that pulled the train.

I'm "lucky" in that respect.  No wife to pull me away.  That being said, I would lay the blame squarely where it belonged.  On the group that abandoned me on an AFK.  Especially when you consider that a traditional gate takes the entire party.  That means that they, intentionally, dropped you from the party before gating.  A gate still functions if you are afk.

That said, depending on the popularity of the dungeon, you may be able to tag along with, without joining, another group to get down to your corpse.

Problem solve the corpse retrieval with guild, friends, or general help, assuming my class abilities can't work. Then just run and hide faster next time. I'm usually the first one to boogie when something wipey comes along. I often choose classes with escapes/run speed/evac - always leaving something like that on my buffs/bar. On the off chance someone actually gets me with an unintentional train, maybe they can owe me a lottery ticket. I'd also take a look at how far my rear was sticking out wherever I got caught by the train, maybe pull somewhere else next time.

If I take the scenario for a given and for some reason I REALLY have no way to get to my corpse (and assuming that it will rot after a certain time) then there are only 2 possibilities :

    1) If I am say level 20 or less I reroll

    2) If I am above 20 , I unsubscribe

In addition if it is the case 1) , I blacklist the person who trained . In games prone to trains first thing that everybody does is a macro "TRAIN INC !" . It follows that the guy did it intentionally so that I report him if training is an offense according to the rules .

I am glad to see a post like this as this is exactly why I post these types of questions and scenarios to the community, not to bait or troll but to genuinely get you folks thinking and discussing real in-game issues that can arise and it amazes me how awesome the majority of the answers are, the maturity and level of rational thinking is refreshing :)

For clarification: Not being able to get your corpse back just means to try and get it back solo for most classes would be near impossible without more deaths (I wanted to encourage social engagement/thinking to resolve the issue).

Ask for help getting your corpse.

I would lecture the out-of-control BARD that created the train on the proper etiquette of running for your life without taking out any innocents.

While doing that I would be side channeling friends and family and guild members about this amazing treasure map I found, let’s go see where it leads! Knowing me well, once we assembled and they see me in my underoos the jig would be up, we would laugh and then go launch into recovery mode.

If I am re-spawning here alone, that means that my party abandoned me.  That's more of a problem than the train is.

You got ported into an alter plane (Plane of Hate anyone?), which requires another player to do the port.

You fell asleep during the raid and didn't wake up until everyone was gone, when you hear a zombie gnawing on your bones.

Now your naked and need help to break into the zone, drag corpse, get rez and ported back out before repops :P

    lol Good times.

This actually happend to me once :P
