What type of gear do you typically favour, light, medium or heavy and why? #PRF #MMORPG #MMO #communitymatters

I tend to go heavy, ....but if not heavy, then light, I'm ether tough as a bag of hammers (nails are weak) or I'm a glass cannon, if you can touch me I die, but good luck getting close.

Ahh but then sometimes I play a healer and those two things might not apply really.

Good question.  Hard to pin down.

Hum, I like them all depending on which class I am playing at the time. As far as the aesthetics go, a good artist can make all types look very impressive. I guess I will chose the artist and all the above. :)

I almost always play a "cloth" class, but I like to dress it up with as much "plate" like gear as I can! I know I'll still be squishy, but at least I'll FEEL less squishy!  Stats trump look for me, but only barely.

Given that I play DPS, specifically Rogues, light to medium....hehehe

I'm favoring heavy armors, with metal platings, chainmail or scalemail included.

Even if I play a caster I will do my best to have metalic features like spauldrons or an engraved chestplate over the robes, battle-mage style.

In a game where light armor vs heavy armor is represented with things like character speed i go light armor... I've always preferred dodge rolls over blocks.

In an mmo though there aren't usually gonna be dodge rolls and block vs dodge is just two separate words that do the exact same thing. In that case I just uncaringly put on the strongest armor my character can wear.

Are you asking whether we prefer a class that uses light, medium or heavy gear? If not, for any class I play I will use the gear that gives the best combination of protection and benefits and won't really care how it looks.

As to choice of class, I also don't care what armor it uses. I will select a class based on the role I want to play and my analysis of whether I will enjoy whatever abilities it has.

Light/Cloth/Glass cannon all the way. Sadly most games seem to excel only at the glass part when doing class design. The cannon becomes "meh" because every other dps class is just as much DPS.

I will wear the heaviest i can based on weight/strength limitations and class restrictions.

Heavy, heavy, and...um, heavy. Mainly because my main classes (cleric, warrior, and paladin, though I am an altaholic so I'll play as many as possible) are all heavy gear and I often like the looks better. ;p I've always told my guild in other games I don't care if my warrior hits like a wet noodle as long as he can take the hits and hold the aggro. And heavy armor certainly helps with taking the hits. ;)

Naked is always an option and can often times provide hilarious moments of levity and disaster between waiting for pulls. I have some guild members that refuse to wear pants while grouping both in--game and at the PC, so I'm thankful we don''t have video grouping. ;p

Well clearly the heaviest armor I can wear will be the 'best' as far as survival matters, so I'm going to assume this is largely about esthetics.

My favorite look is armor that has a strong, geometric pattern. Like mail, or a scaly leather. I like it way better than the look of smooth plate.

My least favorite armor appearance-wise has always been cloth. The main reason is because it tends to be the loosest, baggiest looking. While robes may fit the genre, I've never appreciated them very much. Since I'll probably play a couple cloth-wearers, I'd love to see cloth that is more form fitting, and that has a decorative pattern that resembles the look of mail, or scaled leather.

Light armor for sure. I always end up playing a Monk/Necromancer so a good robe or some martial items is always my go too. I just wanna play already!

Is there anything more to this question than just a casual discussion? Like is this an indicator that Pantheon is going to have specific armor types of this nature, which then of course would raise some other questions?

Excellent question! I'd follow that up with "will all or most loot-drop armors of a given type - say medium - be wearable by all or most medium armor wearers?" (as opposed to a large variety of class-specific armors in loot drops).

And of course I don't really expect a very specific answer to this question, but hey, you can not win if you do not play!

Most modern MMOs have different "tiers of armor....  Cloth, leather/scale, chain, plate.  I suuspect, much like EQ EQ2, and Vanguard, they will have class limitations.  For example, A Rogue could wear cloth, leather, and chain.

I'm not sure I quite understand the question. In most games that I've played, lighter armor has no advantage over heavier armor, so I will obviously wear the heaviest armor my class is able to. If we're just talking about aesthetics, I'm probably partial to plate, though I think all types of armor can look cool if rendered well.

I like Robes and wizards and stuff. Light. I like both, plate and Cloth cleric styles too. Speaking of that, you could use armor, plate and cloth on cleric, to have two differnt "types" of cleric.

Not sure why, but game artist give up when it comes to leather and Chainmail. it always looks... Meh...
