I believe it would be helpful to sticky a "Common Questions" thread. One that had links to those threads that discuss the topics most repeated, such as instancing, death penalties, loot rules, etc. The ones we see over and over.
Perhaps we can take it a step further and separate that thread into two sections. One section involves those topics that have been confirmed by the Dev team, and one section that involves those topics that have only been speculated on by other forum members. Maybe even with a very small TLDR below each link.
Of course, now I'm being "that guy". The guy that proposes an idea but doesn't actually, y'know, do the work to collect all these threads. I do, however, think it would be a good idea. We can go on and on all day about how new people are supposed to use the search function, how they're supposed to necro a thread, how we're "someday soon" in the undefined future getting a new websit with better functionality - but the reality is ....
The search function is bad, people come from other forums where necro-ing a thread is frowned upon, and they've been talking about the new forums since I pledged in early 2016.
There's gotta be a better way, other than making new members feel unwelcome.
Edit: Do mods here have the capability to merge threads?

I can see Bazgrim taking this up...he's been good over all on these forums...gathering information in blocks for newcomers. Kilsin has a lot on his plate, he is Community Manager, and mod here along with participating in livestreams, and other things to do with Pantheon. So have at it Baz if you're up to it. :)

Thank you, this is exactly what I am getting at I just suck with wording things lol. I have seen so many posts locked out and dropped 20 links on just because it's already been discussed. I don't want to scare new people away, and I definitely don't want to see the tables turn randomly one day and have people hated on for necro'ing a thread. Some good stuff here and I appreciate you wording it the way I wanted to lol.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, that I would be scared away if I was new and started one of these threads that got locked out. It would feel like my opinion wasn't worth it because it's already been discussed 10-20 other times. Just my thoughts coming out here, trying to put myself in other people's shoes.
I am putting together a compendium that players will be able to reference when it comes to some of the more frequently asked questions. The goal isn't to stifle discussion but rather redirect people to an appropriate thread where some degree of feedback has already been shared. It really just comes down to consolidating information and also making sure that new members are able to acclimate themselves with some of the thoughts/opinions of others who have expressed similar interests in a given topic. I'll continue to work on it but here is what we have so far (50 discussions that have been locked over the past year): https://www.pantheonmmo.com/content/forums/topic/8530/frequently-asked-questions

I would like to assist in this righteous endeavor. If there is anything I can do to help, OneAD, don't hesitate to let me know.

Feel free to add any information that you find relevant. I'll make sure that the original post is updated. The plan is to organize the questions (similar to what you see with the FAQ where there are sections and sub-sections) and to also include any facts that are available. This includes FAQ excerpts or official quotes from VR. There is a ton of information here on the forum (and elsewhere) but some of it can be a bit scattered. The end-goal for the compendium is to provide an easy to use reference guide that showcases some of the more common questions that people have and redirect them to whatever discussions are already active. Beyond that, it would also be nice to provide any "nuggets" of information that might be hidden in the depths of the forum. I'll add to the outline over the weekend but this is a community project where any/all assistance would be welcomed and appreciated. I think it would also be worthwhile to include some of the threads that have been locked and to notate which topics are open/closed. I wouldn't include duplicate threads that were locked, but rather some of the giant threads that contain loads and loads of back and forth dialogue that people can read up on and get a better understanding of the overall vibe from the community on that topic, and what may have lead up to it getting locked in the first place. Death to the Auction House thread is a good example.

Not sure if they can Tralyan...I don't think I have seen threads merged, maybe this forum doesn't have the capability to allow that. Have to ask the Dream Crusher (our pet name for Kilsin :))

If you do OneADSeven, make sure you ask that it be stickied so it doesn't scroll down and get lost. :)
Kilsin wants us to respond to old threads. That is what you are supposed to do. The "hate" is towards people who start new threads on topics that have been discussed over and over.
Also, not as much has changed in the last 6-12 months as you seem to think. Most of the main systems in the game were set years ago.
Dubah said:Sorry, I can't think of another word for this but hate, even tho that the hate is not intentional in what I'm about to discuss except in part 2. So let's start with part 1.
1) So many times someone creates a topic they would like to discuss, granted there may already be older topics for people to read on, but why? So much has changed over the last year, maybe those 6-12 month + topics need some more discussion. I can understand the devs don't want a flood of repeat topics, to which, makes sense. However, this will lead me into part 2 where the real use of the word hate comes from -
2) People always get hated on for necroing dead threads. Sure there may be an old topic already, but maybe I want to add some elements to it that I think would be a cool system or something. So do I necro the thread? Nope, really can't unless you want people to complain, although I'm not sure that has happened here, I keep an eye on it and talk in topics that I think are crucial, and don't really pay attention to the ones that I know VR already has a handle on, and I like their style. So then, do I just open a new post and post my thoughts about it? Nope, it gets locked and i get told where the 20 topics that are dead already are.
So my question is simple for this forum, where does the hate end? Should I necro a post with my thoughts and personal opinions? Or should I open a new thread so it's brand spanking new and people aren't getting lost in 20 pages of chat, mostly for the newcomers to the forum.
Like I said, hate doesn't work in both instances lol, but it was the only word i could think of at the time, so don't hate me for using hate.
Anyways, thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Complaints? Please feel free to discuss so I know my actions in the future.
Some people just like to put down others because it gives them a tingle in their balls, no matter the reason, i wouldnt sweat it man, been online gaming since 98' in UO, the forums will always have their trolls.

That is a different subject than starting new threads about things that have already been discussed but, that's a pretty bad one. Can you imagine what the general forum would look like if everyone introduced themselves there? That's pretty standard on any forum to keep the appropriate threads in the designated areas. I'm surprised that one didn't get moved by Kils right away.

I don't think any advice, correction or suggestion should be taken as "sarcasm" "hate" or whatever it is.
Whoever you are, when you are new somewhere, you have things to learn and adaptation to make. Thinking whatever you get told is an aggression won't help you to fit or feel home, but might by an exarcerbation.
Don't feel like a wet cat, a bit more of research and observation, I think it's quite easy to get the tone of each forum by scrolling throught a few posts, especially that no other introduction post seems to be done here so it should feel misplaced even before posting.

More people tend to welcome the newcomers in that thread..because its been around a long time, and most notice it. :) Doesn't have any nefarious intention behind showing a newcomer where to introduce themselves to the community...it was actually a nice gesture.

So when in doubt watch/rewatch some videos. The remaining 10% is just wait and see kind of stuff. The kind of stuff that isnt figured out until beta and launch. And to be honest they have given us a pretty good idea as to where some of those things are headed. I think there might be some eureka moments in the future that will change things entirely, but those happen with time and constant tinkering.
There is indeed a ton of information in all the livestreams we've witnessed thus far. There is also a ton of information in this forum, if one wants to read a little here and there. There are some debates, that have been rehashed and rehashed..still in some of those old OPEN threads. Just add on where you will, a lot of us get email notifications when someone bumps or adds onto an already existing thread. :) And you'll get responses. :)
