Terminus "Atlas"

Lore portions of the Pantheon site make references to "The Atlas of Terminus".   What the links point to is merely a map.

Not to argue semantics, but an atlas is generally accepted to be a collection of maps or illustrations.   So we have things like an atlas of human anatomy or an atlas of Earth which each would contain a collection of various diagrams, charts or maps depicting various areas or themes.

So, my question, nigh, perhaps a suggestion relates to whether the plan is to post a collection of Terminus maps.   If so, then the current map makes a worthy placeholder for such an atlas.   If not, then perhaps the description should reference "The cartographic musings of Narian Castigue" if you want to embellish or perhaps for clarity's sake simply call it a "map".

Though I would welcome certain cartographer maps in the style of the real map makers of the 15th-17th centuries, which were incomplete, faulty and spooky , but would give some immersive dimension...

Maps have been discussed in many topics.
Aside that, VR has put down that the atlas map is mainly to give a general impression of the world, but it's for the player to discover its details.
In other topics I advocated for a living planet world.. in such cases maps could be more easily introduced, but get antiquated and obsolete.

    Heya, Rydan.

I'm not advocating for detailed maps.  I just want to know why a single map in the lore section of the web site is being called an "atlas".   By definition, an atlas is a collection of maps.

Not trying to rehash a discussion of in-game maps, 3rd party maps, etc...

About "maps"  VR has not decided about this as far as we know up to this date , it has ranged from no map to simple that player edit them self but this seem to be still to decided so be prepared for an app in the future that becomes the "Pantheon map" as i guess some fellow player will build one for us to use. Code wize i guess they do a detailed one and strip it down IF they decide to go all in on maps later. Remeber we havent started Pre Alpha yet so its a looong road ahead.

    Hey all,

This seems like a really fascinating topic in general. Of course it's all up in the air still, but I'd like to add some ideas here if anyone is interested in reading. (Not necessiarly related directly to lore per se, but in making a world that seems more livable and that has roleplay and lore value and makes mapmakers in the game hold a purpose." Of course, outside apps could ruin this but I still like the idea. Feel free to give lots of feedback.

The idea of potentially having a cartographer tradeskill class sounds cool to me. Imagine that we all start out with basic maps for major areas but then if we kill an orc warlord who carries a note detailing the locations of some of his orc patrols of lookouts then we can take this note to a cartographer who is able to add the details onto our map. The specific Cartographer you give the note to can then add these notes to all of their future maps. This means with new information being gained from the game shared with the cartographer it can be added to the map. It seems like it might take a lot of work but if it is something simple like adding more detail or a few areas to maps it sounds really cool. Maybe one person could explore a cave and find a map on the wall in one of the rooms they tear off and wall and then it leads then they take it to a cartographer who can add it to their map and make their friend a new map.

They can level up by drawing simplier maps. Potentially if the quality of the maps is not high or they have a lower quality map the lines in the maps are faint and hard to distinguish or even the map legend will fade quickly and need to be re-inked.

This is just something fun to think about. I'm open to suggestions and ideas or a friendly link to people who may have already touched upon this idea.

    Warm Regards,
    Xarrith

There are definitely plenty of people that agree with you. You might be interested in these threads where people have discussed a potential cartography skill:

I feel like the plan originally was to include Whitethaw on release.  That could possibly be another map for your Atlas Cel...but at this point, I'm pretty sure we aren't going to see it.

Originally there were 3 racial starting cities per continent.  Gnome/Archai and Dwarves were on Whitethaw (above whitethaw in the case of gnomes).  I am wondering where those 3 races will end up starting if my hunch is correct and we don't get Whitethaw on release.

I'm thinking there were going to be other maps to add to the atlas but, at some point, development got pushed back.

Kilsin Dreamslayer has a nice ring to it :p

As far as the "Atlas" goes, I would love to see better overall Atlas of the world, better than what we have now but that will come in time methinks....
