Awesome.
I would like to see us do that in some form, for certain. Other studios have done an excellent job of using audio storytelling, short stories and graphic novels to flesh out narratives. It is my hope that we can do some of the same type of work with Pantheon, pre launch.
Not to butt in too much, but for me it would even be interesting just to have some guideposts on cultural iconography too. I'd love to see how, for example, Elvish art reacted to the Third Inferno. Maybe we could hear how the music of the Archai, so closely connected to their shared cultural history, would be different from, for example, Orcish music which I imagine would be mostly utilitarian war marches, etc.

A person of detail! I love it.
If I had my drothers we'd exhaust ourselves with those sorts of endeavors. We will have to see what time allows leading up to launch.
Thanks for your interest, everyone!
Before Daybreak torpedoed EQNext and gutted a lot of talent from the development team, the guys behind their lore and some professional writers did a very good series of novellas to introduce the new Norrath back story. I wish it had actually been more poorly done, given how terrible things turned out in the end. Had my hopes up.
But certainly, some sort of long form lore would be very enjoyable.
I don't know if you still have the original EQ player's guide (1999) .
They had an excellent idea to introduce short stories . Not about Gods, Heroes and Kings but about ordinary citizens - f.ex Posy the Gnome wizard apprentice setting out of Ak'Anon to go in the wilderness for the first time.
I found that really nice because it gave an insight not in the vast mythology (which was there too) but in everyday's life which we, players, were about to share .
It was then really fun to walk around Ak'Anon and recognize the persons and places that Posy described .
I'd like to have such a story for every racial capital . I
I would like it split up. Send juicy bits periodically in the game, the website, and other online sources (like twitter, etc.). More information (the meat) in shorts (structure similar to Marvel). These could be offered in different ways, like deluxe box sets or individually. Create an arc that releases information over time that leads into expansions of any kind.
Individually they should all offer a taste, but let the reader piece them all together. As a visual aid to describe what I mean: imagine Star Wars told through glimpses of first person lens from 1000 different people with no trilogy(s).
Maybe down the road introduce a novel which clarifies the past (old content) and introduces a tease (anticipation) for new content.
Also, if you do these, please include nice maps.

I think it'd be pretty smart if any out-of-game story, no matter what form, pointed to the game in one way or another. In other words, you have to play the game and pay attention to the lore to find the answers and truly complete the stories that are introduced in novels, eBooks, etc. A good cliffhanger in a short story they post on their website would be great motivation to dig into the game itself.

The standard Lucas set before the canon was wiped out will be our standard as long as I'm around and have say. They were studious about vetting everything from toys to comic books to games, making sure they all fit accurately within the canon. And yes what is present out of the game should have some intersection with stories, persons and locations within the game. At least in its final form.
