Relevant TED talk

I somehow stumbled across this cool TED talk, perhaps y'all have seen it but it was new to me. And although he's talking about PnP rpgs much of it is relevant to online rpgs too. Especially, I think, the part (spoiler alert) creating your own story. It's what "old school" mmo's fostered and what is lacking in most newer ones. When I reminisce about EQ or AC or DAoC it's not usually about a scripted theme park aspect of the game but about a situation that was unique to my play experience with my group or guild. At least it's that way for me. These are the experiences I remember most and what I hope to recreate in PRF. Those older games allowed us to be the story teller to some extent and I can't wait for that opportunity again.

Hah! Since I'm just getting (re)familiar with the Pantheon community, I was thinking about posting this. Well done,Malsirian.

Very much enjoyed this TED talk. Absolutely brilliant and well done. I firmly believe games like Dungeons & Dragons, along with EverQuest, helped build good communication and leadership skills I still use to this day.

Hah D&D  I remember that it was supposed to be "evil" and parents were cautioned by Religious Folk to keep their children away.   Thinking has changed a lot since those days.   :) Played Pools of Radience on my first computer. :)

Hahah Oh yes, I remember when D&D was the work of devil! You're right, things have definitely changed - for the better in that regard. :) Now we have shows like Stranger Things that celebrate it.

I was reminded of this video again tonight when I read that Asherons Call is shutting down. :( http://www.mmorpg.com/mobile/news.cfm?read=42585&game=18&ismb=1

I haven't played AC in years and years but it was my first mmo so I'm sad its going away. I have a lot of great memories and (real life) friendships from that time. Every one of them came about because AC allowed us the freedom to create our own story. Here's to Pantheon recreating some of that magic.
