I did use the search function and didn't find this topic although I know mapping has been discussed before.
We talked earlier about a cartography skill and having to buy paper and pen to make a map.
I think then, you should have to actively perform the skill and spend time in a spot to map it and the, the more time you spend, the more detailed and accurate the map becomes.
That way, mapping a zone could be something valuable that you actively do - almost like a tradeskill.
As well, I think it should really take a lot of time not just one run through to have a dummy-map of the entire zone.
I think you should ONLY be able to map the area you spend time in. Perhaps a radius around you.
Finally, I think some things should be hidden and never auto mapped.

I know. It's frustrating because I can never find anything using the very limited search function but keep getting reminded that these topics are already out there. that's why I was so explicit - because I knew this was a past topic. In fact, I had participated in one and couldn't find it.
I know there will be a new forum at some point so I can be patient - I just wish I could be more effective and referencing old searchable threads.
