prepare your camp!
Has there been any discussion about this being in the game? I kind of liked the camp timer and how it worked in EQ. Seems like a cool idea to keep along.
I mean my parents didn't like it but i'm an adult now! (no I didn't beat it yet, no I cannot log off this split second, etc :D)
I somewhat agree Liav. IDK maybe i'm bordering on being a nerd but I think the character shouldn't just be able to disappear from the box instantly no matter what the scenario is.
The part I do agree on is that if you're in combat...whatever the mechanism... it's disabled. Really we're just debating on handling like EQ or handling like most other games (WoW)
That way when you get combat bugged you can never log!
Should definitely take time to camp. The only exception would be in a city. I can already see monks using /feign /camp macros to insta log. No reason to even deal with coding exceptions, the world is supposed to be dangerous and being able to instantly remove yourself from it is a bad thing for obvious reasons.
Camp timers have a purpose, but as stated by Dullahan, there should be "safe" areas where you can camp instantly.
Although you should never be able to begin to camp if you have agro (This of course requires that there are no bugs in agro code where the server assumes you have agro from a mob hours ago or something). If agro is a trigger for whether or not you can camp, then camp timer could/should be shortened to like 15-20 seconds. ENough for the server to update information needed, but short enough to log out quickly if you really need to get out and go. :) "Yes Dear, I'll be right there"

Pretty much this.

This is trivially easy to avoid with a snippet of pseudocode:
IfPlayer == Hated
DisableQuickCamp
Too easy to camp in an "unsafe" place such as up in hate just out of aggro range. Makes sense to me that youd need to "prepare" your camp and it'd have to be in a safe location.

Except that in EQ you could be loved by one group in town and kill on sight to their neighbors. Even cities should not be totally safe.

I kinda think the whole "safe zone" thing doesn't have a place in this game.
Either way, arguing over 30 seconds seems like one of the lesser issues. It makes sense for it to take time for you character to leave the game for certain exploitative/circumvention issues.
I remember being in raids and when things went south our raid leader would give the order for us Clerics to camp out.
There was nothing like the rush of watching the camp timer count down as I watched Fenin Ro fly around and demolish my Cleric brothers and sisters one by one.
As he swung around towards me the game fades to the character select screen and that lovely theme music starts playing... made it out in the nick of time WHEW!! haha

I cant remember a camp timer it is a curious option thouggh.
Ox
its still there well was anyways if you hit camp or typed /camp you'd get a 30 second camp timer if you typed /exit it pushed you out of the game immediately (on your screen the game closed and you went to bed in game you character would still be there for 30 seconds then vanish.
Anyone remember the glitch on follow if you had someone follow you and you sat down immediately after running to the location the person following you would start running around you in circles? That was good for a few laughs.
