I agree with Kilson.  I have played mutiple games during alpha/beta and the hype machine really takes a toll.  There has been a trend for people to expect the moon and not get it so expecations are not met.   This is usually in Alpha or closed beta situations.  The public gets a wiff of bad press and things get ugly from there.

Notice the stated purpose of testing is to help development.  This is an old skool approach for an old skool game and it is extremely correct.  An alpha test is for TESTING not for PLAYING.  That is the difference beween the old and new skool when it comes to game development

    Nailed it!

It seems I was misunderstood. I WAS NOT complaining about waiting for alpha as much as I was complaining about the state of the boring choices that are out there now to fill my time. I can wait as along as it takes for this game, and am looking forward to it more than I can say. I just wish there was something other than Path of Exile out there to fill my free time when I'm at home on my computer. I didn't mean to imply that I was upset with this company or game in any way, shape, or form. I mostly spend my time writing papers for school, playing POE, and getting more people interested in Pantheon now!

I personally am tired of waiting for alpha which I donated for. Please please please give me something more than these PTW knock offs of mmos that are out there, I need something to fill about 80_ hours a week. Being disabled this is my only outlet, and so looking forward to this to actually enjoy discovery it is not even funny. Send out early alphas and alphas already!

I totally get your frustration, and while I won't say I understand your situation (as that can be quite condescending and minimalizing), I can sympathize with needing a distraction or outlet to take your mind off of things that you cannot change. While I just joined the community in donating yesterday, I've been "dying" for a good game to come out that doesn't follow the recent trends by developers, but any attempts simply have failed to deliver, or have yet to deliver. I firmly believe these firms have not interpretted what the market really wants, but instead are chasing short term gains versus long term stability, loyalty, and earnings.

Just pause and ask yourself, how you yourself may be getting conditioned by the PTW games that continue to be published by companies. As much as I personally have a distaste for them, they have still impacted my expectations. I don't know of a single PTW or ingame store operation that wasn't released or launched too early, with way too many glitches, or with incomplete content, but the net result of it is that I've been conditioned for quick releases, and then going back and demanding fixes, or even better having to develop my own workarounds instead of waiting for a fix or explanation.

All that to say, I've really got my hopes up on this game with what I"ve seen laid out (mad props btw on the lore - love it!), and as much as I wish it was here to play so I could have something to play that I valued as much as my time, energy, and money... I am equally willing to wait for it. I'm stoked that I will have access to the alpha and beta, and can't wait to see them, but even with that, I'd rather them tell me of a massive delay (hope to any of the pantheon not) than have a weak alpha/beta release that kills interest or creates a diminished expectation or launch of the final package.

Hang in there! As a fellow gamer that has daily struggles, I can appreciate the excitement and desire, but it will be here soon enough!

It sounds like you need some for the immediate (80 hours...), I would suggest stimulating yourself in a current MMO.  Sure, its not what you think you want, but at least it will keep you from raging or getting disapointed.

You make an excellent point here. I won't go thru and list games I've played as I don't want to distract from the point, but whenever I find a game that I want to follow closely or look at playing long term (5 yrs or so), and it isn't out yet....I typically will beta test other games out like crazy, or play other games with the intent of watching how those companies have managed the release of the game, development of content, their core business values, the community....list could go on all day, but hopefully see my point. Doing this keeps my mind busy at times, but it also helps me identify characteristics and qualities I want not just in a game or content itself, but in the company and developers behind the content. It is one of the reasons I've been fairly impressed with everything I've been able to dive into thus far. I don't always like what I test out or "play to pass the time", but helps me sharpen or come up with my own suggestions and as said, define what I do and do not want to see in a game or company.
