I posted this in another thread, unfortunately not seeing this one at the time. Copying and pasting my other post here asking moderators to delete the other.
I have to agree with Mallakith... my reasons below
--------------------
I'm pretty disappointed with this addition to the game, I'm of the opinion this is VR looing their footing on a slippery slope.
I saw it on the Fire Lilly and that is Great, it is a FIRE lily Afterall, why wouldn't it appear to be on fire, I was impressed. But then I saw it on Herbs and Vegetables and was really let down.
Yes, it's easier to see, did it really NEED to be? I'm old, can't see crap, need reading glasses and am playing on a laptop with a 17in screen and I found them ok before. The fact that it's a glow and not a Question Mark, does that justify the hand holding, may as well just make it a big Flashing Arrow pointing down at it and be done with it.
This also negates the darkness, is it really darkness if things are glowing?
Nope, not impressed, the Flame Lillys, yes, great creative idea, the others are a slip down the slope.
-----------------------
Not sure if an on/off option would work. Sure, you could turn it off, but someone who has it on will beat you to the resources, especially at night. The sparkles are seen at quite a distance.
Personally, it doesn't bother me either way. Yes, it makes it easier on my eyes, but like mentioned before, it wasn't that hard to do in the first place. Just more time consuming at night.
The game was initially designed to be super hard. However, a lot of people I know that play aren't old codgers like myself, but are around my kids' ages. The younger generation wasn't even old enough to become a pledge unless their parents paid for it, considering how long this game has been in development. And their mentality on gaming is far different that what mine is. VR has to try to find a way to cater to both crowds in order to get and retain a customer base. I don't envy them in trying to do so. Hopefully enough people can be satisfied with a middle ground to keep playing.
I agree that a toggle isn't a solution. This is a game design decision, are they building a world like Everquest or a Game like WoW. It can't be both with switches to turn it back and forth. Also, it was known in the beginning that some wouldn't like the game they were building, Brad talked about this himself, they can't try to cater to everybody.
I've seen more since my first post, Moon Lillys glow Blue, I put these in the same category as the Fire Lillys, glowing with moonlight, looks very nice. My position hasn't changed about the Herbs and Vegetables.
EDIT:
So they did a poll on the Discord and the wording of the questions actually admits the whole graphic change is about hand holding...
1) I love it don't change it.
2) It's helpful but too much, tone it down
3) Just use it on things like Moon Liliys that spawn less
4 I hate it get rid of it on everything
An admission the reasoning on this was not world building but hand holding. Making it easier. It didn't need made easier!
My personal reasons for liking the Fire and Moon Liliy graphics were because they FIT, Fire Liliy's took the general appearance of fire, Moon Liliy's sparked with moonlight, obviously helped contribute to how each got their name.
Hand holding is what ran most of us off the mainstream games, and they have already started it here.
"Unfortunately I fear the vocal minority who don't want the game to be challenging in any way are starting to win."
The Patcher is starting to make me feel like Lando in Empire, so yes, I agree.
I don't care for the sparklies either.

According to the poll in Discord, which I understand some people here may not follow, shows that a majority liked this change and wanted to see it implemented further. And the poll didn't have a small sampling of ~50 people responding. 625 (44%) respondents selected the "I like this change" answer to this poll out of a total of 1423 people that chose to answer. The "I hate it, get rid of it" response received only 217 votes (15%) and came in last. I'd argue that it was a vocal majority that won out on this.
Sturmere said: I'd argue that it was a vocal majority that won out on this.
VR has said a while back that there are 'tens of thousands' of active player accounts in Pantheon.
I would therefore argue that a sample of 1423, all of whom use Discord (which is already a self-selected minority with their various commonalities of opinion), does not represent a genuinely random, statistically meaningful cross section of the player base. IMO
Of course, I will never claim to be accurate, just post the results of what was seen.
I recently (last month) joined official Pantheon Discord, but I rarely like to interact on it because it doesn't usually represent the better side of the game community, and it has goldfish memory.
I'd wager that not only are most of the playerbase not ON Discord, many of those probably fall into the ANTI Discord as well, so I'd dismiss that result right off.
I'll type out my raid instructions thank you.
You are right, but herein lies the problem:
From what I have observed, the poll posted on Discord is the only one that was conducted concerning this topic. I never received a questionnaire via email or any other form of communication concerning this or any other topic, which if they did, I would assume it would have gone out to all pledges. The only publicly visible place it has appeared on is in Discord. So, it is the only public information available (I did do a search in the forums, and this is the only thread on this topic).
I bring this up because, as our brave forum moderator has pointed out, the Discord crowd is not really representative on the overall population playing the game. So, the survey results are skewed, but again, unless there is some other survey that was conducted behind the scenes, the survey on Discord is the only metric we can point to that is publicly available.
I am certainly open to being corrected on this. Also, if this is heading into the territory of being off topic, let me know.
I would like to point out that it has been proven over and over that "WE" don't know what is good for us. Therefore, even IF the poll was an accurate sample, (it's not) it's results would be false. WE all want easy mode handed to us on a silver platter, WE don't WANT to corpse run, WE don't want to lose exp when we die, WE want to be God like from level 1 and wipe out 25 mobs at a time with auto attack. A game created based on what WE want, is a game with no challenge that I prefer not to play.
Oh, and this reminds me, I find it too difficult to cross the field from the Horseshoe to HC at night the bears keep ganging up on me, I would like it better if the Bears had Firefly's swarming on their coats so I could see them better at night. Or better yet, I would find it much easier to just make night lighter, like WoW did, I don't know, something about the same Lumens as High Noon should be good!
Or I might just rage quit!!!
