@Samboah
Voicing your unhappiness with lighting issues is fine, especially since not everyone has the same graphic problems.
Calling the Dev who is working on lighting a "work-experience kid" is insulting and against forum rules. Please remove those comments.
It's been a while since you joined the forums. It would be a good time to re-read the forums rules. Especially the first one:
"Show respect to other users at all times. No name-calling, insults, or personal attacks toward anyone."
Jesus wept Jonathy, it was a gentle joke, don't be so sensitive!
I'm not trying to insult anyone, just trying to light-heartedly suggest that a they be a little less eager on the crazy lighting.
It is making the game unplayable for many people, including myself. I love the game and being part of the development, but having to log off at night or when it rains is quite unnecessary for a feature that doesn't affect the game mechanics.
So there, you made me give a serious version rather than a more light-hearted "oh darn that work-experience kid, he's caused another bug".
Thanks ChenzemeSamboah said:it was a gentle joke... light-hearted... I'm not trying to insult anyone
I believe you. But you need to recognize that emotional tone does not attach itself to words typed on a page. Neither does what you were feeling or intended. Only what you actually typed. Which was insulting. (The internet has a decided lack of widely understood emojis for conveying non-literal or 'humorously intended' meaning to statements. It needs them.)
In the last few months there has been a huge amount of vitriol directed at VR, very little of which was light-hearted. Some of which earned perma-bans for its offensiveness. And the very worst of which caused VR to remove the names of staff members from the website due to angry players targeting individuals specifically. (Not that your post was close to this)
VR currently has reason to be a bit sensitive.
The forum doesn't ID Moderators when they post. If you click on my name you'll see that I am one. That is the basis on which I responded to your post and quoted forum rules.
Thanks for your understanding.
You should try moderating the forum discord then. There is a core group that does the exact thing your referencing to all the new players that come in to leave feedback. They drive the conversation into debate and attack new players intelligence. Mods do nothing. But if you mention something negative about a dev its a problem?
The emotionally driven posts are stemming from bigger issues that have been pointed out heavily but never seem to be addressed, and have actually become pretty habitual. Almost all related to management issues and lack of communication from staff. When staff does respond, its never an actual answer with substance. Its vague and usually: We are working on it, or soon on almost every topic players bring up. Expect people to be emotional if your trying to create something people care about. specifically if staff keep dropping the same ball over and over.
@Hellic,
You just made 2 posts noting several things you have issue with, and did it without insulting anyone. That is an important difference between your posts and the Original Post that I responded to.
I agree with some of your points. Though I would respond to one of them: "They drive the conversation into debate and attack new players intelligence. Mods do nothing."
1. Most of the Moderation responses on Discord are handled by way of DM's. You wont see or hear about those, but that doesn't mean nothing is done.
2. All the Moderators are unpaid volunteers. Since the opening of EA, the number of Pantheon's Discord users had increased enormously (33,000 at present) and there aren't nearly enough Mods (or VR staff) to keep a watchful eye on all of the conversations that happen each day. If you're in a channel and someone is being disruptive, feel free to send a DM to one of the Green names online and ask them to come moderate.
When the same core group does it on a daily basis I take that as nothing is being done. Green names are actually taking part in these conversations. There has even been forum posts requesting that there be a more moderated section for the feedback area. I and others have messaged the green names and they have stated they are aware of the situation and keeping an eye on it. Savanja has also been told. I'm primarily referring to the feedback section on the discord forum. People shouldn't have to have their intelligence/experience/sign up date attacked when leaving feedback in the feedback section. It would only take a few mins looking through the discord forums to see what I'm referring to as they have been called out for it many of times. The only solution That's been given is to block these individuals, but that does nothing to prevent the same cycle from repeating it self when new players come in to leave feedback.
I visit Discord every day and see all of the things you mention. I also hear many players with the same perception you have saying that 'nothing is being done'. At the same time, I read the Moderator's channels on Discord and see daily the amount of 'things being done' by the Mods and Savanja. If VR had more staff and more Mods, more would certainly get done.
However there will never be the 'perfect amount' of Moderation done on Discord or the forums for everyone. On any given day, some people are lobbying for tighter restrictions (I'm in that camp too, often) but at the same time others are complaining about getting moderated when "I only said...... to ..... when they had just said..... to ME!".
VR has chosen to go with less limitations. It's their forums and their decision. Such is life.
Blocking people that are annoying certainly will work for those that use it. So do what you need to make your time in Pantheon worthwhile. Others will do the same. When enough people have blocked them, even trolls get bored and leave.
"When enough people have blocked them, even trolls get bored and leave."
Some trolls are persistent, even when it is just them shouting into the void.
My main issue with Discord is the goldfish memory aspect of it. Unlike the forums, where you can go back to old posts to look up information, Discord messages "disappear", and people (not the devs) forget about it. The #pantheon-game-discussion is usually anything but discussion of Pantheon, other than the doomsdayers and naysayers trolling it, as well as that one guy doing boomer memes anytime someone comes in with a rational point of view supporting VR. Unless you spend all of your time in this channel, it changes topics every 15-30 minutes. I don't envy Savanja and the other moderators' job herding cats in there. I mainly joined Discord to try to get information about my class, but all I get are "rogues suck because they aren't #1 dps and suck at soloing, so I quit playing my rogue."
There are good people in Pantheon's Discord that do give good feedback. However, they are usually drowned out by the ones that just want to complain all day about the game while ignoring the "Early Access" concept.
"[Discord]. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."
