Video Ajustment : Poor
My experience thus far (as the same was true prior to EA) is that the Camera Controls for 3rd person view are fairly inconsistent. It would be nice if we could get a fixed 3rd person view, instead the camera kinda-sorta does this, but you can also move your character in a way that instead of the camera being behind them, it's now to the side of them and the camera is viewing you "sideways" instead of behind you.
Kind of hard to describe, but I think the camera views need some refinement.
I'm giving them allot of leeway since this is still Alpha (I think? at least Beta).
Yeah, I know. Early access. It's not what it used to mean anymore. Now early access just means the company gave us early access to the game no matter what the development stage is. I don't blame VR, to be honest, Laurian studios broke the mold with their 1.5 year early access to BG3. Other games are doing it allot nowadays. Free feedback (free for the devs, not us). So we have early access to the Alpha/Beta, and I consider that a good thing.
But I agree with many of the points, And hope that these are on the list for updates, especially graphics. outside of the bugs they are probably working hard on, the character, clothing, and armor designs really look more like they are from a 15 yr old game rather then a modern game. I have no problems with the play style, I like the old school feel to the grind, the mechanics, etc. But this doesn't mean it should LOOK like a 15 yr old game. When I can't tell much of a difference between Pantheon and games like Lord of the Rings online, or even EQ2, i worry about this games future. Sure Evercrack players will probably say, "Who cares! it's a modern EQ!"
But is it? really? If it looks and feels like EQ, then why would I play it when EQ is already there? I'm hoping for something that separates this from the crop of poorly designed MMO EQ knockoffs, and these dated graphics aren't helping much. This in addition to the animations. not just combat animations, but everything. My Paladin runs around with a 20lb sledgehammer in her hand like it was a 2oz wand. It looks dorky as hell. Not what I expect from a modern game.
And I hope sounds are being worked on too. There is one combat sound. One. and it sounds like a hammer hitting an anvil. In a huge room since EVERYTHING echoes in the game. And yes, I turned down Locomition sound. my combat strikes still sound like a hammer on and anvil in a concert hall. but even with that, one isn't enough. Even Project Gorgon, which is developed by 2 people, has more combat sounds. and similar graphics (though detail, shadows, and other stuff are much better in this game). I have a very hard time watching my character swing in combat and run with her weapon out.
I know there's a hotkey key to sheath your weapon...even though it doesn't sheath it, it just disappears. I use it, but I shouldn't feel like its my only option because my toon swings her sledgehammer around like a lolipop when she runs. I don't know that their plans are, so this stuff may already be on the rader, but I'm leaving my feedback just in case. I want this game to succeed, and honestly it won't get too far unless it has something to make it stand out from the other EQ/WoW knockoffs that were around 15 years ago.
EDIT: retract my comment about there only being one combat sound. Playing a bunch more weapons I now realize that there are other sounds, So kudos on that. I do still think that the sounds are just weird (except for the staff sound, it actually sounds like your hitting something with a wooden pole). Hope for some refinement in that area. And we still need to fix that reverb. ironically, I don't hear it when I'm on my elf on the elf starting zone. odd.
