A fair bit. It requires an alchemist to make temper from items only found deep in HC and from ghosts. Enough that there should be a noticable upgrade imo.. Not asking for alot but +1dmg and +1stat for gear/weapons and +3 to harvesting tools would be enough imo!
Agreed! I happen to be both wep/alchy what's the combine for the temper? I do think it should be +1 wep dmg not minus one.. seems odd
I believe this actually makes perfect sense with what we understand about Iron/Blood Iron.
A harvesting tool is treated very similarly to a weapon by the game code. Its effectiveness IS its 'damage' stat. And at this tier, it has no 'bonus stat'.
So... using Iron to make it gives the highest effectiveness (damage). Using Blood Iron will give you somewhat lower 'damage' but WOULD give you more bonus stat.. IF the tool was supposed to have one. But Blood Iron does not 'create' a bonus stat where one did not already exist.
I'm pretty sure that last year in Seasons, the one time I had the mats to get a tool set made of Iron (all my previous ones had been ashen-bronze), I asked the crafter if using blood iron would be better and he told me that plain iron would be the best. I trusted him and didn't even ask why. Know I know.
I've just started my crafting journey here on my pally, but I do agree with the OP. Anytime you have something that requires more effort (and danger in this game) the overall reward should be better than the easier route. Even if the increase is small.
does the secondary stat increase benefit the extra effort? If not, then changes are necessary. Unless...
Some classes rely far less on direct damage numbers as an example, and the stat increase benefits them more. What we need are more alternatives. So we have blood iron, which reduces damage by a bit, but gives you a stat increase. casters and healers are happy.
Now we need something (if it's not in game already) that rewards melee, like "Cold iron" or "meethril laced iron" that increases damage by a point or two. problem solved. you go after the dangerous alloy you prefer, and craft the bonus stats you want.
In relation to the crafting tool, that's a silly result due to how they set up crafting tools in general, and simply needs to be corrected. either remove blood iron tools, or make it increase the effectiveness. There's not logical reason to even have that in the game otherwise.
