For those that aren't aware, VR wanted to issue steam keys to VR pledgers when they started the process of EA. It turned out there are significant technical obstacles to doing so. If they find a solution they will still do it, but we haven't heard of any progress on that for a while. At this point, one should not expect it soon, if ever.
There is no 'division' of players as all are on the same servers.
@Brooks, submit a ticket to Support and explain what your problem is.

I seriously doubt that either VR or Steam would be willing to put out the effort to modify their systems to facilitate such a transfer. You're certainly welcome to send a ticket to Support though and ask them.
There is no issue at all when it comes to just playing the game. The issue is that Steam has a social system. It shows what game a person is currently playing, how long they have played it, stuff like that. It also allows reviews of the games one has played, and facilitates communications between Steam members while they are playing games. People who do most of their playing thru Steam lose all of that functionality when they play a game with it's own separate launcher. There's likely other benefits as well that I don't know about, since I've never played any games on Steam.
Besides tech issues with letting VR accounts play on Steam, I have heard (not from VR, so I could be wrong) that there are limits to the number of keys Steam can issue for a game, so giving a large number of them to VR for free distribution to the many VR players would involve a monetary loss to Steam (unless they charged VR for them).
