I play a Ranger, so I dual wield. The problem is I have to constantly swap out my weapon, for a torch, to see anything. This is a clumsy activity. We really need a quick way of doing this. I find myself doing this between every night time battle. Anyone else experiencing this?
Needing a torch in hand is a bad game design idea.
- It does not work well for dual-wielding classes
- It does not work well for two-handed weapon classes
- It does not work well for anyone who needs to use a shield
But then, who does it work for? If it only works for a very small subset of people, it should not be in the game.
A belt lamp would work better (a completely separate, new inventory slot), and maybe a torch that you could plant into the ground, early on expendable torches (buy them from vendor or craft them), and later make permanent ones (that you can take out of the ground and reuse later) as boss drops.
Add racial night vision like in EQ, add items with different levels of night vision. Also, longer twilight / morning time, take some time away from full night and give people at least half of normal light during those hours.
But do not use weapon slots - of which there are only two - for torches. It's a bad idea.
If we could swap out weapons in combat, which we probably will be able to, it'll mitigate a lot of the complaining about the environment being too environment.
I like the environment being how it is, though I believe it should be a bit darker again and I like seeing the torch as a choice, with the ability to possibly get a lamp in the future as a good idea, but not right out of the gate, no, like a lot of the complainers will be expecting, but as something to work for and therefore possesses value in the future; sure!
