I'm on the VIP server and loving the game, as I did with EQ back in 1999. I've played several classes, but have been really enjoying the rogue lately. I liked the dps, limited CC abilities, and debuffs. Lots of fun things to play around with. That is until the recent update. After getting two new shiny T3 weapons, I noticed that my DPS actually decreased- significantly. I am sure that the DPS of rangers, monks and wizards are well above mine now. In fact, I would not be shocked if a DL or warrior might out DPS me. This leaves the rogue as a utility class that can't heal, buff or rez. In fact, the debuffs and CC are worse then the enchanter and marginally better than other classes. So it feels like the rogue, at this point, is simply a watered-down utility class that doesn't do anything particularly well. This is sad, because the rogue has so much potential to be a great class. I hope the devs are planning some improvements, because this class is in a bad state right now.
We heard from a Dev in the Discord about this. They stripped back all of the stat contributions for melee and there is currently no advantage for melee-ing a mob lower level than you. They did this for testing and balancing purposes. The end goal is to remove stat bumps on level ups and make those stats more impactful in general (reducing potential stat bloat). So just to be clear they know it is in a "bad" state and that is intentional. The rogue will be back in business for EA. Though I am sure lots of adjusting and balancing passes to come.
Honestly, people need to understand we are now playing a game that is not even in EA yet. There will be a lot of changes in balance every now and then. If you pledged already (as I did), I assume it is because you want to play the game for fun AND you want to support a creative project. Then, go and support it with some constructive criticism that provides devs with useful information
Yeah, ok. The devs get feedback. They just don't listen. They have a few white knight fanboi VIPs defending everything they do, so they think they are on the right track. It's utterly clear they have no clue what they are doing. They are making big changes right before EA, and EA means nothing more than more testing with big sweeping changes that constantly shift the game, and rarely in a good way.
This game will have a wake up call when EA arrives. A bunch of newcomers will start playing without realizing EA in this game is not what it means in other games. Word of mouth is king. It will be the end of this game. The only thing they are trying to do right now is get this game "released" so they can avoid litigation. It's awful. Embers Adrift is better than this. Utterly pathetic. What a waste of money this was. Yes, I bought VIP to have fun in it. The devs just wouldn't know fun if it bit them in the jimmies.
I'm a lvl 26 Rogue Top tier Rogue/Top on my server in EQ1/Eq2 for say 20ish years... I've been enjoying my Emersion and just looking and enjoying my class.. This Season I decided to go up in lvl and see the top content.. I'm T3 gear double dusted i was using a 11dmg 1.4/11dmg 1.5 Daggers yesterday and my max crit on BS was 733.. an hour before the patch I finally get my Crystalline Twin-Fang (Strange Visual for a twin fang) upgrade dagger 12dmg 1.4dly Better stats also.. and Upgrade my relic from +18 physical crit to +27 physical crit.. Now I can't break 100 with a crit BS.. that requires me to be in melee range and Behind the mob.. Yet Waylay doesn't require being behind and can be used with a ton more weapons.. The class has been completely broken and Dagger/Back stab worthless.. Waited 8+ yrs for a game and was enjoying it.. And if you need to scale the class some that fine.. But your totally broke it.. I only play a rogue.. So you have totally ruined the game for me.. I'll back after ya fix it.. Wasted hundreds of dollars and yrs waiting if the issue isn't fixed.. Highly Disappointed that this scaling wasn't tested before patched.. you ruined my play time at this point.. and made me create a discord account.. because I just wanted to play till you proved that someone isn't even testing these scalings AT ALL before releasing.. :(
For the record, I also couldn't care less about discord, but the dev's efforts to cut down on inflation are a good thing!
To be honest, class balancing is something that happens throughout the life of games. Games that have been released for years still apply class balances and nerfs. It is an ongoing process. To be this critical of a game in pre-alpha seems a bit over the top. All the classes haven't released and neither have the races. Tons of tweaking and changing is going to happen between EA and full release. To expect otherwise is to not understand the nature of testing.
I understand that in the long term stat inflation is a concern. However, there needs to be some way to increase stats or a significant adjustment of the baseline. Being heavily encumbered because I picked up a full suit of leather, a shield, and a bag full of gathered mats when my class is supposed to wear plate isn't something I'm likely to find fun...
