Thanks @Eliv, @Varek for your feedback.
Right now, I’m looking closely at the following graphics cards:
GeForce RTX 3050 6GB OC Edition, for $169.99
GeForce RTX 3060 V2 12GB OC Edition, for $279.99
GeForce RTX 4060 8GB OC Edition, for $309.99
Keep in mind my current card is: GeForce GTX 970 4GB
I’m really torn on these three choices. I’ve seen so many reviews that say the 3050 6GB is “garbage,” but the price tag looks sweet! The 3060 and 4060 are so close in price that I don’t know what way to go between those two. I feel like I’m going to narrow it down to the 3060 or 4060 and then decide between one of those two or go the saving money route and just get the 3050. Thoughts? Any personal experience?
Went from an RTX 2070 to an RTX 4070 but i didnt upgrade for pantheon i upgraded for some of the new stat of the art single person games that utilize the power of
these cards.
last months time i spent in pantheon i dodnt think my 4070 ever went over 35% utilization when playing pantheon even in town around the well when there would be 15,20 people waiting around for buffs.
going with the 4060 is prob your best bet since that will be more future proof and more ram on the card is always better
I have a Strix 3070 TI 8gb ram. My next card will have a min of 12gb. I can't say that I have had any issues so far but more ram is generally better, this also depends on bus width and ram speed.
If you have a few free hours to read :-)
If you have an older system and you want to upgrade on a budget, Nvidia is a bad idea atm.
8 GB is now the bare minimum even under 1080p.
Any new graphical intense game in the next few years will need more than that or you need to reduce the quality drastically.
RTX 3050 only has 6 GB and is as slow as a RTX 1080, it is hardly an upgrade.
RTX 3060 has more RAM but it cost similar and a RTX 4060 is easily 15% faster.
The issue with the RTX 4060 is that it only uses 8 out of 16 PCIe lanes with PCIe 4.0 and above.
By using an older Motherboard with PCIe 3.0 and lower, the card will run into a PCIe bandwidth bottleneck.
That will result in a 10% performance loss or even more.
None of these cards i would call a great upgrade card.
AMD on the other hand has bad AI and raytracing performances.
If you want these you have to stick to Nvidia or wait for the newer AMD cards which will fix that.
A new graphic card should at least have 12 GB or you'll probably buy another one in a couple of years.
Yes, a RTX 4070 is costly but you do not need to replace it so soon.
Or maybe you go for a cheaper AMD 7600 XT or AMD 7700 XT.
I will switch to Linux next year and an AMD 7900 GRE atm looks best for me.
I appreciate everyone’s input so far. Hard decision between saving $100 or not. I will be making a choice in the next week approximately.
I’m still trying to find someone that has the 3050 6GB Edition and see how their gaming experience with the 3050 is for Pantheon. I know you’re out there…
Update
I did go with the RTX 4060. Right now, I just play Pantheon. Based on my experience from having a GTX 970 and upgrading to a RTX 4060, if someone is on a tight budget, I would see no issues with getting the 3050. I’m still hoping someone with a 3050 will give feedback on their experience playing Pantheon.
To fully unlock the potential of the 40-series GPUs, it's essential to upgrade both your processor and motherboard. These components serve as the backbone of your system, and older hardware may not efficiently handle the increased data throughput and enhanced capabilities of newer GPUs. Upgrading ensures that you avoid potential bottlenecks and allows you to leverage the 40-series’ superior ray tracing, AI-accelerated graphics, and improved frame rates.
Without a compatible, modern CPU and motherboard, you may not fully realize the performance gains, such as faster rendering, smoother gameplay, and higher resolutions, that the 40-series is capable of delivering. Ensuring that your system is up-to-date will optimize your investment in this cutting-edge technology.
ok firstly the "black screen issue" is simply shoddy bloom lighting. it only happens outside during the brightest part of the day.
if you notice there is currently no option to disable bloom. simply being able to turn it off would probably be an instant fix for people who own these cards.
which brings me to my next point... i have a GTX980ti. it runs cyberpunk, 6 days at fallujah, ashes of creation... you name it, just fine.... i actually have 2 but using SLI isnt worth the heat buildup nowerdays since most games virtually ignore the second card..
pantheon does not look graphically complex enough to require a more advanced graphics card than mine... its not even close. this is 100% just unoptimized software.
just because people are rolling around with 4090s nowerdays doesnt mean you can ignore optimization entirely and just tell people their hardware isnt good enough.
look at what is being displayed on screen in pantheon and what is being asked of my GPU.... now compare that to other games with much better graphics.
why is there such a disparity?
you know, in fairness, apart from the blackscreen bloom issue the 980ti seems to run the game fine... the GPU load is high for what you can see on screen but the frame rate is fine..
i was surprised to hear one of the devs say they tested it on a 1070 and that was as low as they were willing to go.. maybe they had 100 people on screen?
Hello, pay attention if you have only a PCIe 3.0 capable board and you want to buy a RX7600XT or RTX4060. Those cards have only 8 PCIe lanes. So you will have effectively PCIe 2.0 speed between motherboard and graphics card. And yes, it will slowdown the graphics card.
Cheers
There shold be no reason to need a new graphics card unless you are just looking for better performance. The black screen issue is a specific issue which should be able to be remedied, if they just put graphics settings in the game. It has to do with the bloom lighting or something similar. I have no other issues running the game on max setting except for the black screen and it is sporadic and only during day. It never happens at night or in a cave. This is just an issue with their code or a lack of controlled settings.
On a Sapphire Nitro RX590 its running pretty much everything well still on 1080p. I never had anything 4k or 8k.
A few of the newest high end games ive played on medium instead of ultra but it does ok.
The great gpu prices right now tho ive considered upgrading but in 6 months whats 300 today will be 200 then.
Technology is moving at such a insane rate the gpus 1080s that were 1k are cheap now in such a short amount of time.
