So happy to read you had a wonderful first experience, Ebuntom. :) There is a "spark" in your comment that shines through to which many of us can relate. While there is more to be added and refining to be done, many of us can feel this world becoming the home for which we have yearned. VR have made a lot of great progress this year, but it is important to remember that this is still pre-alpha.
Regarding your walking-on-water comment, swimming will indeed be in the game. I believe the plan is to at least have surface-level swimming come early access, with underwater swimming and water content to be added later.
Enjoying the alpha and making plans for what characters we intend to play when it actually releases. This is the game I have wanted for decades.
I wish I could give thumbs-up to posts in the forum. :-D
Freaking LOVED not having a map. It puts us more into the environment. My wife and I are already planning to use notebooks to make maps. I haven't done that since EQ1, which must have been around 3 decades ago. I also enjoyed exploring without exclamation marks turning it into an MMO version of Paint by Numbers.
- The movement was great.
- Combat was great.
- Harvesting was great.
- Needing to rest and eat was awesome.
- Having weight and a quest to drive the point home, was nice.
- Grouping was easy.
- UI felt a little cludgy, but not awful.
- Sunrise and Sunset should take longer.
- Walking on water is hopefully going away.
Two enthusiastic thumbs up from us on day one of play. We are likely to research increasing our pledge to the next level.
This is great to hear! It's fantastic that the lack of a map increased your immersion, and that you're already thinking creatively with your own maps notebooks—what a flashback to EQ1! I'm glad you love the movement, combat, and survival features. Your thorough input on the user interface and water walking is also important. I'm excited for you both as you continue to investigate and potentially improve your pledge—it seems like a great start!
