I'm not sure if the last two posters are mistyping, mistaken, or intentionally trying to mislead people.
"This problem is actually often caused by the machine running for too long. Maybe you should check and run to clean up the trash."
It's a missing instruction set in the lighting of certain video cards that is the culprit here,
and no, it is definitely not
"This issue is common with GeForce graphics cards under $1,000. Also, VR doesn't encourage it. "
Be assured that you can spend far less than a thousand dollars to have just a lovely Pantheon experience.
@Geddoe,
The previous two posters are accounts created solely for the purpose of posting hidden links to other game sites on these forums. There have been quite a few such posts in recent months. Your comment brought them to my attention and they have been removed.
So thanks :)
It's almost unplayable for me, too. It happens very frequently, and it can last a good few minutes at a time! Dropping the performance settings to 'Low' seems to help sometimes, but nothing I've tried has remedied it completely. Realistically, my PC is a relic, I have a GTX 970 in it, and I've been putting off upgrading it until Pantheon releases. As such, I've recently been picking the components for my new machine, and because of that, I've learnt to tolerate the black screen of death (I've died many times because of it).
For those with this problem, but cannot afford to upgrade, it pretty much renders the game completely unplayable.
Same with friend of mine that I gave my buddy key to, he is using a GTX 980, black screen for 20 seconds to a few mins, all happens during day time or areas that changes light from bright to dark in game, would help if there is info on what hardware are not supported, people are buying supporter pledge or using buddy keys to find out the PC they are using can't run the game, and not everyone can afford upgrades, specially in this economy.
I will not be upgrading. They will either remedy the problem or this game is not for me. There is no reason it can't be fixed considering i've played many more games that have much higher graphics capabilities than this game and I have zero issues any of them. So this is on them to fix.
the black screen issue you see is VERY VERY similar to underwater / looking at the sun (again bloom type effect ?),
I stated this months ago it is likely not due to 900 series being to old, its part and parcel of the newest lighting in pantheon, which only went wonky when the newest lighting went in about.. May 2024.
Fix the underwater black screen problem and i think there is a very good chance all the 900 series and Titan video cards will stop black screening middle of the day too.
(if any of this helps narrow down the water lighting issue for you)
As a datapoint, I have a 970 in my desktop, and a laptop with a 1050Ti. Black screens on the desktop, never on the laptop. It really does seem to be an issue on cards below 1000 (not dollars, chipset version).
It's also "part and parcel of the newest lighting in pantheon," in that there's something in the new lighting that fails on the older cards, and they're not interested in fixing it. Something else they might do might fix it, like the underwater issue, but they're not specifically testing for it, and won't be.
My video card might be older but it works with literally every other game i've ever played. Never once had a lighting or black screen issue, except in this game. I refuse to pay money to upgrade a card to play one game. They either need to fix it or refund my money if i'm not playing this game.
so i upgraded from 980ti to 2080ti to play ashes of creation.
im playing pantheon while im waiting for the AoC phase2 character wipe and i have to manually limit the temp on my card because otherwise pantheon maxes it to 84C after literally 2 minutes ingame.
i have a global framerate limit of 60fps on my video driver - this is purely bad code.
pantheon is nowhere near graphically complex enough to redline a 2080ti like that. the game has some great lighting but it has absolutely no business requiring what it does to run the game. AoC looks much more detailed and asks a good deal less from my GPU than pantheon... let me say that again because its absurd - AoC takes less hardware to run than pantheon.
VR needs to crack down hard on whatever is going on with their software because simply expecting people to throw a 4080 at the game is not good enough and folks are going to avoid your product unless you can make it function properly ON APPROPRIATE HARDWARE.
Okay guys. This is getting really old now. Please fix the black screen bug. This game is uplayable during the day with random black screen for up to a minute and a half every few minutes. Not fun at this point. Just frustrating. No other game or program does this. Even one's with much better graphics.
