Should Pantheon have target of target or not?
For this discussion target of target is targetting a friendly group/raid member and having beneficial spells go to your initial target and detrimental (damage) spells going to the target of the friendly group/raid member. And the reverse if you target an enemy the detrimental spells go against your target and beneficial spells go against the target of the enemy.
I think Target of target (or HoTT in EQ) is vital. It should not only be active on your groupmates but on every target you ... have on target. It's essential to see what a NPC or even more important a hostile mob is targetting. I think I don't need to develop deeper the reasoning behind it, everyone is familiar with it.
Just a little side note, having played a pet class during 20 years on EQ, when "Target of target" (HoTT) went live (it was not implemented in early EQ) it changed my life as it was so much easier to see what pet was targetting and what the mob pet was on was targetting.
Last but not least, "Target of Target" unleashes its full usefulness when combined with an "Assist" command you can easyly and quickly hotkey, but I assume this is a must of any MMO and that /assist is already implemented or announced.
Pantheon does plan to have a dual-targeting system one that allows you to have a primary defensive target and a primary offensive target. With that being said I think it would be nice to see a target of target indicator as well. This would help in healing situations if the mob should decide to turn and burst someone other than the tank by allowing the healer to use a defensive on that person or make sure they have their health topped off. It would also help pet classes should the pet decide to start focusing on something that is being CCed or if the pet is being used as a CC or temp off-tank.
Target of target is a must for a healer.
Keep the mob targeted and you can watch to see agro bounce off of the tank, onto one of the dps's or yourself!
an offence and defense target would be nice. for those times when you have full mana and want to help dps a bit. swapping targets is usually a pain. and the off chance you fumble switching back to the tank to heal, is usually not worth the weak dps a healer puts out

100% agreeing with you. Just a side note this "offensive" and "defensive" dual-targeting (which is a supplementary layer of targeting features, would rock in addition to Target of Target) sounds more to me like the "focus" system in WoW iirc, however WoW allowed (at least it was so in early WoW, perhaps it evolved) only one focus target. You could 'focus' a target and recall that target as your current target with a single click, allowing you to switch in an instant from your current target to your assigned focus target.
I think that's what is intended when you speak of dual-targeting, except you will be able to 'focus' one defensive and one offensive target which can be different.
I also think it would be useful to assign, in some circumstances, offensive and defensive status to the SAME mob, thinking for example of a charmed mob and of enchanter's hotkeys to target and apply beneficial spells (when mob is charmed) or to target and apply mez and charm (when charm breaks).
