I have to say regarding the October 10 show that I agree and disagree with the "rant" as Leksur put it regarding the lack of direction for the PA5 - shake out (1).
I totally agree that a document should be made available to each tester when logging in to the game that states the intent of the testing, limitations and reasons and a list of changes made since the last test. However I do think it a bit churlish to then state that he doesnt bother reading the official forums or watch the official streams and then say that the game was not in a state he expected.
Now, in my eperience of coding and testing (which is many years), it is the responsibility of the tester to read what needs to be tested and I (for one) would check the official sites to make sure that there were no notes available before having a go at VR. Yes, they should have been part of the log in process, but the main objectives were available for people to review. If you didnt have time to look them up, then thats on you really. We are all busy but some of us keep up with what's going on with the game from the official site.
I also disagree with his definition of a shakeout. I have never heard it being referred to as a "document creation process" and for me, it has always been to catch any big issues early on, before official testing ensues.
Now, if Leks had taken the time to review what was being release in the PA5 - Shakeout, it would have been obvious that VR's definition was more in line with my own than his. If you are in PA, or Alpha or Beta, you are a tester. It really is your responsibility to know what the objective is for those tests. If you cant find those details at login then you really should have had a look on the offical forums.
Dont get me wrong, I loved the show and was interested in the failings and good points as perceived by Joshue, Yarnila and Leksur but I totally fail to understand the frustration from Leks regarding it not being what he expected.
I still remember when Yarnila reached out to me because he had noticed my forum posts and wanted to interview on his show. That was a great time and the start of an epic journey for me. I'll always consider VoT to be the founding fathers of the "Community Matters" mindset.
