I would expect Reignfall's: The Dead Valut and Kings Reach's: The Silent Sanctum to be repopulated and scarey on nightfall. I can see both of these full of nether-worldly creatures. I also hope that most places will have some change over of mobs between day and night.

    Ooh, good answers! :)

So far for me nothing has beat Kithicor at night. Just keep hugging the walls and hope for the best.

I loved the creepy vibe that I had from Castle Mistmoore in Everquest I know it's not a typical "scary" place. With the right setting I feel it could have been real scary.

    How about:

    • At night, in a thunderstorm - you get undead + elementals
    • At night, on a clear night - you just get basic undead
    • At night, in the ocean - you get undead sea monsters

just some crazy thoughts to throw out there.

Bonus points? You give points now? What do the winners get? Here, all this time. I thought these debates were point-less.

I'll need to 2nd this one, lots of horror stories passed down about that zone.

    Kithicor Forest @ Night EQ1

As far as scary, anything Pantheon would be nothing but speculation at this point. I haven't seen (and don't want or expect to before launch) anything that compares to as already mentioned Kithicor not just at night but even just the evening... will it change while your traveling through it.

Another not mentioned so far,  FEAR,  Zoning in right in the middle of pathing mobs, none of this "Safe Zone" at zone in nonsence.

Not really a "night" moment, but I love the South Shroud in FFXIV, around Quarrymill. During days, its a lovely and serene forest area. But quite often, the sky will become overcast, the forest becomes dark, you see lightning and hear the thunder already (but no rain is falling yet). This always makes me wish to get to a safe place quickly :)

Kithicor scared me to death, too; I think a large part of that was because it linked some of the lower level / newbie zones, so you inevitably ended up travelling through there way before you could ever entertain the idea of hunting there.

I'm in my forties, I've been playing games my entire life, and I can honestly say that, for me, one of my favourite memories of any MMO  (or any game for that matter) was following my Brother (who was playing his level 5 Warrior) on my Gnome Mage (also level 5) through Kithicor from Rivervale to Commonlands. We were making our way to Freeport, following a higher level guild mate and we were absolutely terrified, hugging the wall and not wanting to go down toward the level ground when trees on the zone wall forced you to do so.

Running through Guk, hoping and praying your invis didn't drop was pretty terrifying, too. I know that's not related to 'night time', but it's the fear of knowing that, any minute you could get your rear end handed to you on a plate that makes the experience so memorable. Well, the fact that EQ actually had a real penalty for death made these scenarios very scary, and subsequently, very memorable. Without that penalty you wouldn't have respected the environment, or the mobs, and those memories wouldn't exist (you'd forget them pretty quickly). It's the emotional response that makes these experiences memorable, you will forget most of the details over time, but you will never forget how they made you feel.

The tunnel between Surefall Glade and Qeynos Hills when starting as a human ranger in Surefall.

For Pantheon? I am hoping we get a zone with supernatural darkness or a dense dark fog so that groups can only see a very limited distance around themselves, couple that with some strong unnerving ambient sounds and creatures. Learning the zone would be a great skill as even maps would only help in a very limited way, especially if you need to move in a hurry.

Scareiest places for me were any time a new release came out and exploring meant running around a new zone with no clue what you might bump into and knowing (most of the time) If I aggroed anything I was more than likely dead if I could not snare it.

    Thronefast quarry.

I expect this to be one of the places where I get turned around/confused and then find myself caught or surrounded by mobs at night.

Najeena from EQ. Doesnt matter what time of day it is. Why not add unseeable holes that lead to extremely high level enemies in every noobie dungeon?

Strictly based on the "at night" criteria, i'd say:

    Kithicor

If  I were to list the zones that were a bit nerve racking due to their tight quarters i'd say:

    Unrest basement

    Najena

    Runnyeye

@BeaverBiscuit Yeah Najena always made me tense. All those flailing limbs from those terrors as they were casting nukes and stuns filling up a room with particle effects. Ogre guards popping up in escape routes Every corner in there seemed like a trap waiting to be sprung in that zone, I loved it

I would love to see this.  It might be even more fun if this supernatural fog were a weather effect that would periodically hit certain areas (like graveyards), and when it hit, large numbers of undead would spawn in it.

I remember a zone in Anarchy-Online had these giant sandworm-like mobs that were entirely hidden from view and would pop up unexpectedly right in front of you.  They were huge, so it was very startling.  In Diablo I (not an MMO), I remember the ambiance of the Hell levels.  All the blood on the walls, the amazing music, and the occasional screaming sound effects, were fantasic at creating a tense, on-edge feeling.

This is what I was thinking too.

City of Mist COULD have been made scary too.  Especially if it had actual mist in it.....heheheh

    Capitol cities.

The trade district that gets inundated with people trying to troll and bait others with political arguments and whatever else.

Inevitably there is the inn/entertainment district that fills up with RPers ... "RP"-ing.

The main common area that you see the people that never log out, who will talk to anyone and everyone that will listen. You log in at any time of day, and they're still there, without an AFK flag.

None of those things are necessarily scary in and of themselves, until you realize that behind each and every one of those avatars is a real person, lonely and desperate for attention.
