I mean it all depends how you define end game. If you mean max level and with all masteries I am with you, I hope I never reach it. I fully expect to hit max level prior to any expansion and likely will play enough to even master my play style or two. I hope I never grind out all there is to grind. The constant crawl of progress is a reason to keep going and joining all of these groups. I get speeding things up after expansions and years to help people catch up, but I hope the chase goes on for a long long time. We will have to see how mastery plays out.
There is a city in the main DnD world called Waterdeep where seemingly endless adventurers go to retire as it is a safe city. Everything your adventurers do are really just errands for the citizens of this city. Your bartender is strong enough to take on gods. Their existence as walking gods with petty basic problems could have been the inspiration for one punch man. Most people are so far beneath them, but there they are, buying groceries.
Knowing there is this massive surplus of walking gods out there really kills the idea of wanting to be an adventurer. I feel the same way about most MMOs that "start at max level" Cakewalk to godhood, then you bicker with the thousand other gods to get the fresh bread because you have no real power in society.
Counterfleche said: Who needs leveling up? I plan on spending my time with my gang of friends. We'll have a brave paladin with a penchant for iconic neckwear, a smart wizard who dyes all her equipment orange for some reason, and a beautiful human enchantress. I'll be playing a pet class and the four of us, plus my pet, will roam the countryside exploring and solving mysteries.
I like that
By the time this game launches, I will be much older, probally retired. I hope I will be able to play with the other retirment people in the old folks home. There will be time in-between morning Tai-chi class and mid-afternoon nap time. Will VR have a monthly senior discount?
I will be all about horzontal leveling. Playing with friends, helping with groups and quests, or just logging on to craft and chat. exploring different, race/class/faction combos. It is also nice to become an expert on a particular zone/area, were you can act as a guide.
Balance is key. two hours a day, a few times a week. I don't think I will run out of content, it all about playing with a fun group of people.
