Narian Castigue Is Shady!

I'm gonna come out and say what we are all thinking.

WHY IS ISTUULAMAE CARRYING WATER FOR THE AMENSOL DYNASTY?!?!?

Granted, I know it's hard to distinguish what exactly what happened in the past since the victors tend to write the history books, but there is more going on than is being fed to us by his propaganda.

Take for instance what we are being told about King Avendyr.  Here's an excerpt:

"It is perhaps wise to briefly return the narrative to Vesu and King Avendyr, whose vision for what his people must become was said to be crystallized in that hour on the aloof island. For there is no figure who so altered the future of his own race or Terminus at large than the Human leader. Even before he set foot on Vesu, his frontline leadership in the many battles leading up to Ka’Druhorr had more than won the respect of his contemporaries."

While this may be debatable, this speaks nothing to his intentions.  Crystallized for the good of the world or bad?  Altered for good or bad?  All we really know is that he could fight.  And I don't think we need to argue about no figure has altered the future of his own race or Terminus. What about those who saved his life on the battlefield? If they had not, wouldn't that have altered the fate of humans as well.  And I think I can show that any other human being given leadershiip if the dynasty had ended in battle would have made at least as good or poor of decisions as Avendyr.

Another quote from Istuulamae's propaganda:  "The ascension of Thronefast in commerce, wealth and stability has endured as the greatest pillar propping up the tent under which all other races could progress. When Avendyr died in 525, he was mourned on no less than a half dozen continents."

An explosion of commerce, wealth, and stability doesn't happen easily.  The state rising to quick power and wealth generally is a sign of shady business dealings.  This brings me to Narian Castigue, the underlying thread to all the hazy edges of the accepted history.

Narian Castigue, a researcher during Amensol's reign, found important information, dangerous information, relating to the Dragon Accord.  He also found that the speech and writing on the high dragon tongue, found they had magical properties.  So, here's the story we aren't being told.

Narian, a human, after the Deicide War reached the beginning of the end with the death of the Ravaging Lord, brought his findings to the new King, Avendyr.  He could not support the research that needed to be done on his own dime.  In exchange, the information and power that came with his research would be at the king's disposal.  The crystallizing of Avendyr's focus came when it was clear that the Sacred Six were breaking up like the Fellowship of the Ring.  This would leave some weaker races vulnerable to be overtaken.  A state bent on retaining power would gladly fill that void of strength.  So, Avendyr saw his moment of opportunity.  He had Narian continue to do his research, moving him into the castle, becoming part of the first Court of Avendyr, and using him as an advisor.  If Avendyr could use the promise of power on weaker states, he could work favorable trade deals with them, perhaps even the modest tribute, for protection of course, and begin growing a coalition of nations under himself supposedly for the good of humans.  BUT, he continued the illusion even after Narian's death of retaining a magical power drawn from the dragons themselves, even though Narian's efforts fizzled out at his passing and no great breakthroughs even materialized.

Avendyr's great renaissance of the humans after the war was an act of hubris and powergrabbing, and not some great selfless calling to strengthen his people.  He was chasing a legacy his father was cut short of attaining.  And don't get me started on his daddy issues.  I don't care what Istuulamae told you, he was not the only, or first, son of Amensol.  And it drove him to overcompensate in every aspect of his life trying to earn a position with his father that was unattainable.  And he did so on the backs of the human race.

I have found a collection of histories that show what Amensol and his progeny were doing in the shadows that better shed light on the "gray area" in Istuulamae's state sponsored white washings of this corrupt family.  Just don't tell him I said so.

At least one bard of Thronefast would like to be listed as not thinking this at all, and strongly disagreeing with your loudly shouted strawman proposal. I would be happy to meet at your favorite pub at your earliest convenience to calm your obviously addled mind. I am perplexed at the origin of your vitriol - is it possible you are a Chosen of Ossari, The Betrayer (may he rot forever) - sent to spread deception and foment fear?

/ooc - nice counter-story, creative, if a bit hostile toward poor Justin (and the descendents of Amensol, and Narian)

I would be happy to meet you to discuss these things further. And I understand why you would feel it necessary to speak of these thing in a less... open environment. The eyes and ears of the king extend farther than it's face. Feel free to meet me at this Tavern outside of Thronefast. It's a quaint place with plenty of drinks for any level of palate.

/ooc thx Kumu. Easiest way to be engaging is to be controversial. Hope you have read some of my stories that I like to think are plausible, so far. Just glad he hasn't released some lore that blows up all my stories. Still hoping to goad Justin into posting, accidentally spilling some beans. You hear me, Istuulamae? RACHA will continue to grow as you sit in your ivory tower and ignore us!
