hmm...must be trolling or planning to add cosmetic pet perhap?
NAY.
if its a pet let that pet be part of the game as a rescue quest and my reward is a faithful side kick pet that dont do anything but run next to me. Let the Dev be creative and add pets as part of the game no need for "Cosmetic*"..
NO.
They are certainly not the worst thing, but I'm not for them.
It just ends up being cluttered.
People always end up with the same pets running around and they are no longer special or unique.
Unless the cash shop opens up the gates for cosmetic pets. At this point, theres plenty of variety of different cosmet pets...but now nobody gives a **** about them because anybody can get any pet they want for $5.99 within 20 seconds.
They add no value to the game, they do nothing but create clutter.
IF it is a must that somebody MUST have them, and they MUST be in game, I would prefer there to be a VERY long and tedious questline...something similar to a very long epic weapon quest. However, I would prefer there to be a large variety of pets to choose from at the end. This way it would limit the amount of people that actually do the quest to mostly those that just really needed a cosmetic pet in game becuase thats their thing...and the large variety would prevent from seeing the same pet over and over agian and it not being special. If you go this route...don't make it possible to turn off cosmetic pets becuase those people really earned it and should be able to show it off.
If you go the cash shop way....let me turn that dumb **** off!

That is also a good point. I am also against cosmetic pets but this made me wonder...what if there was a limitted number of each type of pet?
Then it would be *less* annoying. But still annoying hehe. And still pointless.
I am reading all of this, its good stuff, but draw the line at cash shops. Too many threads on that, once you open that pandora's box iut will ruin everything- no matter what the current business model is. Old school is true school made by happy, earnest devs.
I want happy earnest and dedicated devs, hard core purists. If I need to compromise to their whims, - well I have to . I am not the master, I am merely... I am subscribing for the privilege to cavort in their world but if they are happy making neat things? I want them to love those things/pets so they can get carried away with them and maybe keep the fire of creativity going.
So, why not get creative/passionate about NPC's and orcs n stuff? Or, get "someone" to charismatically direct all that creative energy that wants to make pets into the Lore of the game and direct it fundamentally and world buldingly. But if there are some chaotic good rapscalions that simply must drop easter eggs and giggle while they prance away under the eyes of the boss- thats cool too! just make it... related.
A clear nay.
I played games where we had dozens if not hundreds of possible pets and I never used one. It is annoying, useless and boring - just a pile of pixels always repeating the same old movements taken randomly in a very limited library of movements.
On the other hand :
A ranger having a wolf companion that can track would make sense even if it can't be used in combat .
A cleric having an owl companion that can bring him scrolls or messages would make sense too .
A necromancer having a serpent or rat companion that can inform him about fresh corpses or useful necromantic ressources would make sense.
I could live with animal companions as long as they make sense lorewise and have some use beyond just looking cute when seen for the first time but boring and pointless when seen for the 100th time.
I'm one who collects cosmetic pets but I'm just No. Been there done that just No this time around please. Can you imagine a raid of 50 people with combat and cosmetic pets?
