I mean the graphics look great and I don't mind the action combat. I still put Pantheon as my number one and privacy always will. I just feel that a lot of MMOs go through ridicule and criticism so heavenly that people don't really give it their best shot. The game could be fun to you if you open your mind up a little bit and just have fun. No comparison, no judgement, just play. If people had that mentality then more MMOs would have a better reputation. I know there's a lot of sucky ones out there but pretty much all the MMOs I've played I had a lot of fun. And if these and other future MMOs succeed then it's a great thing and it will only improve the genre as a whole and get it back to the player base it once had. All the devs try, so should you.

If Ashes pulls off what it intends to (and let's be honest here, that is a big "if") it will be similar to what EverQuest Next was shooting for. Unfortunately, AoC will only be a temporary side gig for me when it eventually does launch and the main reason is because of how tightly PvP is interwoven into the core gameplay. I generally play MMORPGs to play with friends, relax, socialize and do activities together that we all enjoy. I do PvP from time to time but it's not something that I want to be logging on to do every single day. Which is why a vast number of MMOs released over the last few years as well as are in development now just don't appeal to me. They're highly PvP oriented. Nothing wrong with that mind you, it's just not for me.

Now the sales pitch for AoC is great on that aspect. Their video series on Nodes paints a pretty picture of the PvE game. Whether they can get there or not is another matter entirely. As we all know, the game development process is a fickle thing.

Wow yeah I didn't know a lot of the team from EQNext went over to AoC. It does have a bit of KoreanMMO to it but if it has a bad Dev team then it will surely not do well. If AoC can somehow pull off a fun PvP system like GW2 then I think they have a shot. We'll see if they can measure up but yeah I agree with Kratuk in playing it casually. As for the others I'm excit ed to play them. Fingers crossed New World, The New LOTR, Magic the gathering, and Crowfall turn out well.

Yeah their nodes system and the living world concept they have for that sounds awesome. But I'm just not too optimistic that it will be what they intend it too. It's extremely ambitious and I've learned through many MMOs not to get my hopes up when it comes to promising overly ambitious core mechanics. That said, it's always been more of a pit stop to prevent burn out sort of thing with me. AoC would be that MMO I might pop off to a day or two after going Pantheon overload. But Pantheon right now is my core MMO. Nothing else is really scratching that itch at present or even coming close in development...except maybe, maybe, Saga of Lucimia. But I haven't dove into that one enough to say for sure yet. ;p But count me among the Bazgrim #BelieveinPantheon faithful...as it were.

After years of waiting, about to give up on all of it, not care, and hope I do not miss the email in my inbox for alpha when/if it comes.

Kratuk- yeah I haven't heard much about the node system living world system. What is it exactly? Yeah Pantheon is the only MMO right now I will extensively play. I'm really hoping this next prealpha is a short one. I would hoe by Christmas they launch alpha and then we'll get to see PF in it's full glory.

Grimvalor- stick in there man I know I feel like it's taken too long. Almost get the feeling of how long blizzard took to release D3 and that absolutely flopped. Im really hoping VR can deliver a AAA title. I know they will but the wait is killing me. If it makes you feel any better I built a whole new rig to play it haha. I'm not even subed to beta lol

I think if they delivered what was initially promised, it could be a fun mmo. I feel ya on the rest of your comment. I do feel like gamers are big babies that criticize everything prematurely and unfairly. (not everyone, just 99% of gamers)

I see "gamers" at work that dimiss a game as garbage after seeing Nothing but an announcement. I'm like.. "um, you haven't even see the real game or played it, how do you know it's garbage?"

People love to hate... i will never understand it. They'd rather hate something than Try it and give it a fair unbiased opinion.

I quit listening to gamers. They label everything 'hot trash' without even trying it.  I will try Ashes, if it ever releases. I honestly feel like Ashes is DOA. I don't think it will ever release. pure vaporware. They disappeared for 6 months and came back with a BR?  I think someone spent that 3 million and now they are broke.

I too play / have played a Lot of MMO's after EQ1. I had loads of fun in Wildstar, SWTOR, WOW, GW2, ESO online, FFXIV.

I tried New World (alpha testing), i thought it was the most boring thing I have ever played. Deleted it. But at least I know I don't like it because i Tried it.

Flapp- Yeah man totally on the facts that you gotta at least try it. Yeah if Ashes does come out I would try it.kts just a little hard to pay full price for a game and with a sub just to give it a go. That's why I like free trials and I really think pantheon should have a refill but that's a different thread. I think your thought tho on the fact that someone spent the kickstarter money. Who knows I don't work at daybreak. Yeah the concept of New World was a lot different from any other MMO to date and that's coming out soon. I bet the alpha sucked but what gives me excitement is that Amazon is behind it and they literally have an endless budget. I doubt Amazon will let it fail especially all the advertisement and marketing they can do to promote it. I think the setting of the game is cool and no other MMORPG is set during that time. It's pretty different that you can be what ever you want which caters to a large audience. If and when New World launches I am curious to see the foundation of the game and how they'll build it. A game with bad mechanics is doomed to crash and burn.

I'm not quite where Flapp is yet. I still think AoC will release, I'm just not too confident about the stated mechanics working as stated. Which, as much as it frustrates people, is where VR is doing the right thing without going to deep in the core mechanics of Pantheon just yet. That will play into their favor over the long run even if it frustrates people over the short. In comparison, AoC's Nodes systems that we've been discussing is very similar to what EverQuest Next was shooting for with the Storybricks AI stuff way back when. It would be easier to let you just see the Nodes vids so here they are and they aren't too long.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44HChA1Kkfk

Now it sounds awesome, but so did EQN in some ways. And if you watched Dave Georgeson's SOE Live 2013 presentation for EQN (link below), you'll notice some striking similarities between what the two hope/hoped to achieve. They (AoC) may have something akin to this but I highly doubt it will be anywhere near as dynamic and expansive as the videos seem to indicate.

So why does not overhyping pay off for VR you ask? That reason above. Hyping something before you've proven it can work can often be a path to tragedy and disaster. Let's say the nodes system for whatever reason can't work and has to be majorly redesigned. What do you do given it''s one of the core features you've promoted? On the flipside, VR has only given us a surface taste of certain core mechanics of Pantheon. We still don't really know how Perception, Prodigy, Colored Mana, or atmospheres truly work or to what extent. So our expectations are kind of minimal.

A rusty dagger... off a snake? *blink* I was sort of expecting some frayed shoe-leather. And some coppers? hue-hue must be a copperhead huehuehue.

oh wait, nm. sry, read OP's post.

ROFL...  This is funny.  I remember those days.

LUCKILY, Brad mentioned in a couple of streams that they're going to make drops more realistic in that sense.  Snakes won't be dropping weapons or money, as an example.

I was always kinda disappointed that when a snake had the audacity to kick me that it did so without wearing boots.

In a nod to the old zone loading screen in EQ, one of the loading screens I've seen several times in the Pantheon videos is "Teaching snakes to kick."  hehehehe

Right now only interested in Pantheon but unlike Flapp if it surprises me and doesn't make it I will try one of the others. Or go back to Rift or EQ2 or the like - after so long away that may feel new again. Crappy but new.

That snake - if snakes are important in Pantheon maybe I can talk spouse into playing. That way we will have a ......hissssssss and hers game.

Camelot Unchained will probably be next out. Not a huge fan of PvP/RvR, but I’ll try it just to build my own spells.

Ashes of Creation might be worth a try IF it delivers on their truly dynamic node system, AND has the proposed constraints on open world PvP that they are proposing so that it doesn’t end up being a ganker/ griefers paradise.

Chronicles of Elyria intrigues me with their youth-to-permadeath and reincarnation model of generational character development.

But, Pantheon remains my focus and hope for the next best game.

I'm keeping an eye on other MMORPGs, but to be honest, none have the old school PvE emphasis I like so, even if they are well produced, professional efforts are unlikely to be something I play at all or at least for long.

I'm looking forward to WoW Classic more than any of those, really.

Maybe Project Gorgon might be interesting...
