What's going to drop first?

    Hey peeps,

So I was just reading about the other mmos that are coming out in the near future and what Pantheon is competing against and was wondering what everyone thought about them and which one would drop first or that we will get to play first. The Choices

    1. Pantheon
    2. Lord of the Rings (not lotro)
    3. Crowfall
    4. New World
    5. Magic the Gathering mmo
    6. Camelot Unchained
    7. Project Gorgon

There are a few others that I missed but I'm intrigued to see which games other people are looking at.

Also if say the new Elder Scrolls but it's not an mmo

The two I'm following are Pantheon and Ashes of Creation.  The both I think have a at minimum 2 years to go, likely longer.  Hazarding a guess I think Pantheon will release before Ashes.

That newly announced Lord of the Rings mmo... jeepers, that's probably a decade away.

I'm kind of the same atm but opposite on the belief. I think Ashes will likely drop first as they're already in alpha and I feel like are working with a better budget. Taking nothing from Pantheon mind you. They're just more lean on development resourses and still have at least one more pre-alpha to go. So Ashes is already ahead in development phases.

New World might get there at about the same time but I seriously doubt the new Lord of the Rings will unless they rush development.

Words fail to express my lack of interest in a new Lord of the Rings MMO designed for portable devices and/or consoles whose parent company is a Chinese chicken company. Nothing good will come of this - and that nothing will come quite slowly.

Project Gorgon has a tiny team and not much budget - something good may happen but probably not for a while.

If I had to bet without even knowing much about some of the others I would say Camelot Unchained will beat out Pantheon, Ashes and maybe the others.

The path Ashes of Creation took towards focusing on a battle royale approach left me with very limited hope for it.

Yeah I was going to mention Ashes just didn't know how far along they were and with that battle royale mode had me sobbing. Don't know why they think that would be a good approach. I'm hoping pantheon had only 2 years max to go before release but I have a feeling I'm wrong. That's sad that the new lord of the rings is gonna be for portable devices I'm hoping no mobile. I would really like to see a graft mmo out of that genre. Lotro was ok but I feel they could do one with photo imaging or what ever. I honestly think crowfall will beat them all. They are in beta I believe? They have some cool races and focus on PvP.

Camelot is in beta but seems rushed as there is so much more that needs to be done. The beta server is rarely even open.

Idk. I'm hoping Pantheon because I have no interest in the other games.  Camelot if the PvP is done right would be fun... scratches the PvP itch.  Ashes had caught my eye until they went all Korean style fast & flashy combat. No thanks, I could play ESO or the other MMOs out there for that.

I'd like to see the dev team numbers next to each of those projects.

Of that list I think CU will launch first.

One of the key things to remember is that CU is really only a PVP game with an interesting island and player built fortification system. Once the class balancing is done the game pretty much is too. Honestly the hard part of CU was them building a new game engine that could accommodate 1000 pcs in the same battle, which they apparently have completed.

Well they've said (Ashes) that the BR is being used to help tweak the MMO and performance. It was supposedly something that they could throw together fast without much effort, which says alot about the BR genre in general. ;p I'm no developer so no idea how that would work but I just assume its tweaking for focused area PvP using the assets.

Yeah CU I think will be fun for PvP. I wouldn't mind playing it for a little while. I know they are trying to make it next year? Or test then atleast. I want to see how they all unfold and which mmo will hit top of the charts. I know pantheon will be there they are just thing their time. Which isn't bad

Kratuk- Oh ok yeah that makes me feel better about it. I think it's a really pretty game and the combat style could be fun. I just don't think strategy is on the same playing field as old school MMOs. I feel they would excel great at PvP or some PvP server based combat. Why do you think?

I am Only interested in Pantheon. Pantheon is my last mmo. if it's good, I stay there until servers close. if it's bad. I will be out $500+ and quit gaming.

Honestly, I'm gonna be a bit pessimistic on this one, but Ashes looks like a dead game to me. They had 3 million $ in kickstarter, got more budget than pantheon alone, and presented a few flashy vids and concept and then what ? Their forum was down for months (I'd say 6 month, from early december to recently if I'm not wrong) due to "database corruption", the BR is following the current "trend" and I looked at a few vids about it : Streamers said it sucked bad, and it looked like something completely unrelated to the gameplay (You spawn weaponless and pick whatever you find, which gives you a few skills that will barely one or two shot the opponent).

And now that their forum is back on, they are selling "cosmetic packs" every two weeks or so. I really have no hope in their integrity and game, sorry if I'm acting like a joykiller here.

MauvaisOeil- wow yeah it seems that they must be losing money or followers. Especially if forums were down that long. I watched a couple streamers play it and it looked stupid. I really don't mind action combat as long as it's fluid and first get repetitive. But your not acting like a joykiller at all. I want all MMOs to do well but sadly that can't happen. It seems they're are always companies that will push the boundaries. I'm really hoping we can get a solid A.I. system introduced within mmos. I feel that would be a great future. Or in part.

One can never say how the future will unfold. But to be fair, they were selling cosmetics every 2 weeks to a month before the site went down or was revamped. I casually browse it from time to time so I thought that it was a site revamp. I must have missed the corrupted db issue.

I tried that BR a few times and that was pretty much how it worked. You dropped in like every other BR and picked up weapons and armors that would give you skills related to those weapons. I've never been a huge fan of BRs tbh. There's always one fad the gaming industry latches onto and crushes the life out of. And that lifeless husk atm just happens to be BRs.

I did have hopes for Ashes also and would have pledged (as my number two game in development) if not for their mandatory pvp system. Meaning that if you tried to go pure pve and didn't flag you could still get ganked - it just would cost the ganker more in reputation. That was before their ridiculous foray into battle royale which persuaded me they were either unable to focus on the important things or were desperate. Now I no longer follow them at all.

There hasn't been much of anything released in the last few years that I have even shown interest in. I stopped keeping up after awhile. It's all PvP centric anymore and I just don't care to spend my days competing against people. No offense to the PvP'ers out there. I just never felt like MMO's was the place for PvP. Play games like Mortal Kombat, or Fortnight where everyone is PvP.

You're spot on with the integrity of the game comment. Their game concept is super interesting, and if executed well then it could be a ton of fun. They are relying on a French company to develop the majority of the games assets. I've lost hope in them as I feel they are continuously selling their product through cosmetic crap instead of actually focusing on the game. I have not pledged to them, nor will I because I don't trust them with my money.

The BR of Ashes, APOC, was actually useful in terms of stress testing their servers but I agree that it turned off a large population of their fanbase. The launch of it failed miserably and their quick turnaround for a new forum took significantly longer then they promised. Their merchant used for pledging is rated at the bottom of the barrel for BBB and people have complained about their transactions in relation to AoC. All-in-all, there are major red flags associated with Ashes of Creation's technical capability, morale compass and integrity of the team.

I will try the game when it releases, unless Pantheon is first....then I won't.

With all that being said. This is why I appreciate Pantheon not giving us any dates. It does more harm then good.

The other games don't interest me at all. Not my style.

Ok so even though Ashes had a bad launch and opened worth BR mode, do you really think it's going to be a bad MMO? If you focus on the PvE side of things will it be fun? I mean the graphics look great and I don't mind the action combat. I still put Pantheon as my number one and privacy always will. I just feel that a lot of MMOs go through ridicule and criticism so heavenly that people don't really give it their best shot. The game could be fun to you if you open your mind up a little bit and just have fun. No comparison, no judgement, just play. If people had that mentality then more MMOs would have a better reputation. I know there's a lot of sucky ones out there but pretty much all the MMOs I've played I had a lot of fun. And if these and other future MMOs succeed then it's a great thing and it will only improve the genre as a whole and get it back to the player base it once had. All the devs try, so should you.

If I can answer to that, I haven't been catched by Ashes for five reasons :

    1) I heard of Pantheon first (That remains a human behaviour, I was already sold even if I catched Pantheon quite late)

    2) I wasn't catched by EQnext except by the fact it mensionned EQ in the title, because to me it focused on secondary aspects of the game like destroying landscape, facial recognition features, before showing anything practical. Since AoC is basically a part of EQNext's team fired by Daybreak and selling themselves as "fulfilling every promises EQnext did", they inherited all I saw from EQnext that was just taking a franchise name and making something completely unrelated, including non hard classes and an apparent useless class/job/vocation system.

    3) Most demos when I took a glimpse were basically somehow "GW2 like", with character moving and beeing dressed like a sub-par asian game, lacking a bit of soberty,

    4) Their class system seems impossible to balance or to have any flavour (64 archetypes), they will either be too similar or too imbalanced to be really interesting. Looks like a big ambitious board and yet no info about classes/archetypes have been shown to support it.

    5) No brad. Honestly their director is lacking any knowledge in game design, they aren't carried by any name of experience and it's an open door to very bad concepts.

Games and their development teams are tied together. Unfortunately, you can have a great game concept and a poor development team and you get a bad game. You can have a bad game concept and a great development team and you get a bad game. You can also have a bad game concept and a bad development team and you get Daybreak...I mean a bad game.

Ashes is the first, a great game concept but a development team that has shown numerous times their inability to have discipline, integrity and misplaced values. This has nothing to do with their capability ironically. More so, it has to do with their leadership, since it's guiding the ship. Time tells the story of how MMO's will thrive, survive or fail. Ashes seems to have a similar story of one that fights to survive, because of their leadership...not the game itself.
