I really enjoyed the recent stream, but there was one little detail in it that I’m fairly certain I’ll go nuts if I don’t mention. That detail is the name of the “Ulthiran Blaspheme.” It really should be “Blasphemer.” Brad even commented on it and asked if it was meant to be “Blasphemer,” but just had the last letter chopped off somehow. The general consensus among others seemed to be that “Blaspheme” was correct…but it’s not. Blaspheme is a verb meaning “to speak or act in a way that insults something sacred,” and blasphemer is a noun meaning “one who blasphemes.” Calling a mob an Ulthiran Blaspheme instead of an Ulthiran Blasphemer is like calling it an “Ulthiran Walk” instead of “Ulthiran Walker,” or “Ulthiran Slash” instead of “Ulthiran Slasher.” See what I mean?
If that little one-letter error makes it into the finished game, it will drive me buggy every time I set foot in Halnir Cave. It will ruin my sense of immersion, and I may find myself unable to continue playing. Before you know it, I’ll be returning to WoW and its ilk, settling for a sub-par mmo experience and missing out on a far superior experience in Pantheon, all because I couldn’t handle seeing that one misnamed mob. Please VR, don’t force me to go down that dark path. Put an R at the end of the Blaspheme’s name and save the gaming life and sanity (ok, maybe too late for that one) of one of your loyal supporters.
Thank you.

Haha. But you're right, if they're saying that the mob is itself the expression of some external blasphemer, then it should be called an Ulthiran Blasphemy. In that case it would be a Y causing me all of this heartache rather than an R. Oh, Y me?!?
Maybe it's like the F word or Sh**?? Universal!?
There's an "Ulthiran Sh**", then there's the boss "Ulthiran Sh**ter.?
Looks legit to me.

Yea, I think you got it right.
There is a Blasphemer and those are his little Blasphemes (an individual "curse" spoken). The OP might be trying to attach the word to the entitie when in fact the entitie itself is the manifestation of the actual curse that was spoken by the Blasphemer.
That's not confusing at all!
They are named that way so Gyldervan will go insane and kill them all on sight every time he sees one :)
It's not a spelling error, its a custom gameplay feature designed for you.

Lol, that didn’t occur to me! It all makes sense now!
All kidding aside though, I get what some folks are saying about how the mob might be meant to represent an individual curse of some (so far) unseen blasphemer. But in that case, the mob should be called a blasphemy, not a blaspheme. A blasphemy is something one can be (if one’s very existence is somehow an insult to something sacred). Blaspheming is something one does. You can say that the blasphemer blasphemes a mob into existence, but the little mob created by his blaspheming would then be called a blasphemy. To reiterate:
Blasphemer = One who insults the sacred (noun)
Blaspheme = To insult the sacred—what the blasphemer does (verb)
Blasphemy = The insult itself (noun)
As a more commonplace example, think of the words punisher, punish, and punishment. Maybe there’s a Punisher boss mob somewhere, and all of his little minions are somehow the physical manifestations of his punishing behavior. That would make each one a Punishment. You wouldn’t call the minion an “Ulthiran Punish.” That makes no sense. You would call it an “Ulthiran Punishment.” Blasphemer, blaspheme, and blasphemy work exactly the same way. You can be a blasphemer or you can be a blasphemy, but you can’t be a blaspheme. It's just not allowed.
I should add here that I know this is kind of a silly topic, and I didn’t start the thread to be a know-it-all or a nitpicker. I just wanted to bring this to VR’s attention because I’ve seen it in multiple streams now, and thought I would offer a bit of free editing advice while the game is still in development. Contrary to my ravings in the original post, I will still play and enjoy the game even if VR never sees fit to change the name of the mob. But it’s still kind of fun to quibble about it. :)

Yeah, it annoyed me at first, but those NPCs are the manifestations of the blasphemer's blasphemy. Or, something like that.

Aayden said: As blaspheme is a verb and the ulthirian balspheme mobs appear to be spirits. One might argue that they could be representations of the last actions of an ulthirian blasphemer, as their actions are immortalized as spirits instead of their being.
Between Xurtan and Aayden I dont know who is the winne .
(You see what I did there? And so again the cycle begins...)
This whole thread made me chuckle. Thanks for the Monday laugh. I don't have an answer on what the true spelling is but I can tell you there is at least a few misspellings I have found already. Those are generally something we will fix later in the production cycle. However, I do like the whole Blaspheme as a proper noun idea.

That escalated quickly.

Great! I am glad you guys are focused on more important tasks like animations, dungeons and cities design, abilities, passives, ressources, and bugs fixes. Keep up the good work!
