Why does it matter to you if I choose to costume gear that I earned but may not have currently equipped? I earned it. It's mine. I should be able to costume it whenever I want.

Dyed armor is a destructive force when it comes to meaningful items and recognition, cosmetic/glamour/transmog to change the look of one item you have to another item you have doesn't affect much in comparison.
In my opinion there should never be any clear cut "Best item" for a slot.
If every cleric is the same, then IMO the dev team failed. I would hope there is so much customization available that simply saying group needs cleric will never happen.
I would like it to say group needs healer. Now that might be a cleric but hopefully there are options. Druids built for healing, shamans maybe.
And even if three guys are all clerics, hopefully gear will be super customizable and not just Wise Heml of Defense is best because it gives +5 widom and 5 points of AC.
Paladins looking for a Shield of Tank Protection so they can heal by deflecting a portion of damage or whatnot. Make your build count so people will remember your name, not your class.
That being said, I am very much hoping that no finished item (with the exception of starter trash) will drop from mobs. I much more like the idea of materials dropping then those materials being
crafted into gear.
