I can think of nothing worse than having to do every quest, acehivement again. No kidding. Seriously, let’s get a challenging, hard game where you ACTUALLY take your chosen class and race seriously plz. Not some watered-down WoW/ff alt-everywhere playstyle.
I've always had an alt or two, usually because I have trouble deciding at first which race/class I would like, so I try each I'm interested it. And finding the class and role that feels the best fit for me for this game. Some games I prefer tanking, others I would rather heal, almost always like having some utility outside combat as well though.
Also, for me, it's always been more about the journey. I've played many game with my friends who try and rush to the end, rather than enjoying the content they are in.
Pantheon feels like it is going to be a game which focuses on the journey rather than the destination. More about the game play within the levels, rather than rushing to the next raid.

This is my biggest reason. For me, the journey IS the destination, it doesn't take you there. Very well said, thanks!
I'll try and have a dabble with every race and class when I have the time, just to get the feel for them.
It could just be one thing, for example I love the starting area and story for the Worgens in World of Warcraft - but I couldn't main one with that poxy run animation
I do make alts, but mostly just to try out the different classes, and sometimes to play with friends just starting out.
I typically have a main, a secondary, and try-out alts. mina dna secondary are usually created in different areas to experience content the other didn't/couldn't
My main is the one I play most often, my secondary is when I am feeling anti-social or just bored of my mains current status/environment/group options, and then alts which most never get past level 8-10, many get deleted to try another class when I realize I suck as a bard or an enchanter. ;)
It doesn't follow that having alts makes you take them less seriously or expect or want to rush through content.
I understand some games may have made the mistake of making levelling too quick or easy - I doubt it was ever solely to allow for alts, but even if it was, as with just about every aspect of MMORPGs: just because other producers messed them up doesn't mean VR has to.
There is no reason alts must have any detrimental effect whatsoever.
Trust In Pantheon.
No. Not into alts. Played the very same character 1999 to 2005 in EQ. My friends and guildmates could always rely on me to be the main tank of our groups. Not what I felt like playing or was toying around with ATM. I always felt I could improve something about or of my character. Be it money, AA's, experience, helping to spawn a named.
I pray Pantheon has a one character server. You get to know people by how well they play their role and their reputation. Hard to hide much with such a ruleset.
I will have at least 10 alts, as of right now. Two accounts and not for boxing. Race/class combos that look fun to me. i enjoy learning the different view points each combo has. I will have one main healer that leads the way, but I’m going to enjoy the journey for a long time.
If you look up alt-aholic in the dictionary you will see my face. I love to have at least one of every class a game offers..and sometimes more than one if the game offers different build paths that are unique for a class/race. I really enjoy seeing all the newibe areas and racial stuff and tend to have a wide variety of classes/races as well. I think in EQ2 i have 40ish character slots on my account. With the new progression server opening I will have to delete a buch of guys since all my slots are full. Plus I like to cover all tradeskills myself just to be safe, though I do play with a regular group of people.

I have alts for plenty of reasons but do not consider myself an alt-oholic. I have a main and it gets played predominantly the first year or more. Then I have an alt usually leveled up to fit a percieved guild need more than anything else. To the aside of that, I will have crafting or bankbot alts. I am a completionist and somewhat proud of that, I will be doing all or as many tradeskills as possible- this most likely means alts even if level 1. So for me, alts are more tools to achieve goals not a character that I feel compelled to play.
Edit: I have made alts before of specific classes to test their abilities and counter abilities to other classes mechanics. So, alts as a tool and a test platform- still no vested love for them though.
I love alts because I have a hard time deciding on a class, and I usually want to experience most of them. That said, I'm very much in favor of a nice slow leveling pace that makes the journey really mean something. Starting new characters is one thing, but I would want it to take a really long time to level all of them to the top.
Yep, I am totally an altoholic. I like to try different classes to see what their mechanics are like. Also, if there are different race storylines, I like to experience them as well. And of course, there are times, when I simply get bored in a grind.
What I usually do in any MMO is have at least 2 alts; banktoon and farmer. While I'll spend the majority of my time on my main, I'll usually dump excess items over to my banktoon to sell or store. My farmer will also feed my banktoon, usually with raw materials to sell.
With so many people being in favor of alting, I have to ask, are people going to expect leveling to be easier because of this? I mean, lets say it takes 8+ months for an avid player (3-5 hours a day, 10+ hours on the weekend) to experience most of the content, will that be an issue?
In EQ, before they started reducing exp requirements, alting wasn't a very common thing (ie not a serious attempt at playing a second character to compete with the main). Part of the complaints at the time (and what was complained about in other MMOs that had high exp requirements) was that the exp got in the way of people enjoying multiple characters.
I have no real issues with people playing alts, my concern is more on if the game caters to it and having an over all effect on the play of a single character due to some of the above reasoning.
Are people ok with alting and having it take an enormous amount of time to progress your character?

Having Alt doesn't mean banking high level toons. Sometimes it's just great to chill a few hours in an area actually needing drops in it, and making new friends. I don't plan to have the game make Alts easier than main characters.
