would you guys consider hiring  George R. R. Martin as the lore master of pantheon?

i am sure everyone interested in a fantasy mmo would be a game of throne fans as well

that would surely be making this game featuring on the  headline globally and possibily draw in those who thought they arent interested in a hardore high fantasy MMO

many eq players who have fond memories from their childhood dont even know this game's existance

I think the current team is more than sufficient, i have faith in them.

In regards to your other statement. Pantheon is not very well known correct, but neither was EverQuest in start, and yet still many people were drawn to it. I do not know about VR's marketing plans, but if they have them, i'm sure it will come. With Alpha possibly comming this year i think tho now is not the right time to start big marketing.

Ouch that's pretty harsh.  I personally like Justin's writing style and the concept of Terminus is Brad's baby.  Writing a campaign setting is a really indepth process that you do in alternating layers.  Generating IP is something that takes a lot of time and every shard that crashes into Terminus is going to have its own lore that will then need weaved into the greater lore.

Bringing in some big name to do bulk writing isn't going to do much for the exposure of the game as the general creative direction is already set and most of those guys have their own projects they want to work on.

What is bad about the current Loremaster ?

G.R.R Martins beeing good is an entire subjective thing, beeing known for only one unfinished book serie which was unknown until it made it to beeing a tv show.

Either case he is too old for anything related to long term and a lore adapted to mmo problematics. Beeing a good storyteller can be usefull for story driven games, but here we're looking for a background and long term coherence, to which changing the loremaster mid way is the worst thing to happen.

I like the work they are doing, it's setup in a way to allow for a lot of fexabilty in the future.  But if you were to add a new member, it would add Patrick Rothfuss.

Justin's doing a great job with the lore from where I sit - in fact, it's one of the reasons I'm really excited to play Pantheon.  I don't see any need for the team to pull in any other author unless Justin wants the help.

That said, I do hope that one day after Pantheon has released, we have fantasy authors lining up to write stories set in the world of Terminus.  Because the mark of a great world is that it fires the imagination of others.

    No thanks.
Martin is over rated and his books are only popular because it was turned into a hit show. Otherwise he would have been another mediocre fantasy writer that faded into obscurity.

VR also doesn't need to pay for name drops on their game, when they have the one guy who's name actually means something in the MMO genre.

All adding G.R.R. will do is cost them money and get their name into an article or two. There are much better and cheaper ways for them to approach their marketing.

We would love to add Pat to the team for some playtesting, but we know he has a pretty important project of his own to work on and we certainly wouldn't want to distract him too terribly much.

As for the lore, Justin's work is stellar and his perspective is fresh and original, just like all of Pantheon.

    :)

The lore we have already is one of the strong points - why on earth .,..well why on Terminus.... would you feel a need to switch?

Martin's books (not just Game of Thrones) have both strong and weak points - which can be said of any author. He does a good job creating a world to set his stories in but I wouldn't say his world is nearly as detailed or internally consistent as some others such as those from the Wheel of Time, Recluce, the so-called Honorverse series, the Black Company books, the Paksennarion books and the like.

Obviously a lot of this is highly subjective and he *did* do a good job on the books I just feel they aren't amoung the top 5 in the history of science fiction/fantasy. But the key point is we don't need anyone new on the lore.

So my brain went from Patrick Rothfuss, to his blog, to the fact he is close by in Wisconsin, to Gary Con, which I just missed.  https://garycon.com/ ; it is the only really cool gaming thing in the midwest, since everthing else is normally on the west coast.  We are neglected in the midwest.

I really hope not, song of fire and ice is one of the most overrated book series ever written.

also will bring the wrong crowd....

Ah, yes... Hollywood sellouts would be a perfect match if you were seeking to provide a mainstream sellout game!

Seriously, of all the authors and you pick the most mainstream one? What about Raymond E. Feist? At least he has a history of being a part of reputable cRPG games?

Martin is a mainstream hack, nothing more.
