No worries. I ’get’ the WoW and ff nostalgia. I just think they were always terrible games imo. Just had no interest, even at vanilla. As for why I am here, I enjoyed Brad’s games: EQ and VG (mind you they weren’t so called clones of each other). I am looking forward to Brad/VR’s Pantheon. :)

I have an idea... How about oneADseven downloads a FFXI server and invites us to join the game to the experience he considers? I know that he can't achieve everything he desires, but this server would allow us to experience the game as he sees it.
I am game, I love trying anything concerning gaming, I am a gamer at heart and while I disliked FFXI at release I am intrested to see how oneADseven would configure his server to achieve his "vision" as to what he thinks Pantheon should at the least be like?
So, let us know oneADseven, setup the server and contact us through PMs, I would be happy to try out the game and then, more importantly after play explain in great detail why.. I think some of your suggestions are incompatible with Pantheons original focus.
Send me a PM, I will be waiting!

no one is trying to insult you and would you kindly stop with the self victimization?
I am just going to state this.
If I could make the game I wanted using Pantheons Server, but being able to modify the tech to the level of balance I have been mulling over for the last 20 years, I can without reservation say that most gamers would love it. This is why.. Yes.. VR... I am beating this drum... you should design the game as a server/client released product, not a traditional propritary controlled server client access product. You can figure out the details all you like, but I will stand on this, and be proven right in the future (when, I have no idea) that company controlled servers (in terms of content, not hosting) is a thing of the past and that for the survival of gaming of this nature, developers will have to adapt and change thier nature.
VR could easily provide hosting services or sell the product to be hosted where a 100% of these arguments would be solved. Servers could be HUGE with mass populations and they could be small with very specfic ones and the only deliniating factor would be who wants to play on what, according to what.
Lets be honest, people go on about how if such happend, there would be no community, but then ignored the power to which the private servers had on this era. For instance, Winters Roar, a private EQ server was hitting near 4k players on prime before SOE shut it down. The idea of "personal choice" in a server would reduce the result of social play is false.

What?! :S
No worries, it seems you have little knowledge of the things I speak of. Are you actually interested in what I speak, or are you just being combative?
Seriously, I am being honest here, there is truth to everything I was talking about above.
Jump out a day and get a massive succession of pages and walls of texts to read...
I think Tanix, that you have a way to high opinion of your own ideas, not to piss off most people. I do not agree with half you claim, speak of, or conclude, because they are only based on your own wishes and desires that you put on words like a truth. Keep in mind that everything remain subjective, especially preferences, claims and projection of potential future interest.
Long posts, long texts and self made conclusion have nothing in common with beeing right or wrong, or having a better knowledge than anyone.
Do not take this as a personnal attack or critic, I simply see you looping on your opinions on many topics with different other posters, and it doesn't seem to expand the discussion or open new gates or conclusions for anyone including yourself...
Take a deep breath.

If you don't believe me, google "WoW private server, EQ Emulator, Final Fantasy XI emulator (not the nintento one)"
You can run your own server of these games, modified to your liking. I did EQ, but then it was too old, Idid WoW, but its core designs required changes that were not capable without large and direct code changes. FFXI private servers, I never tried, so this would be an interesting experience and would give oneADseven a clear platform to sell his idea. If he can sell it through play, I will be the biggest supporter, but I doubt it will be as he thinks it will be with me. None the less, I will give it a fair and honest try.

I understand your point MauvaisOeil , but I have seen it for nearly two decades. Either we call people out on it, or there is no point. People having an aversion to reading is not a valid rebuttal.
If someone is too inconvenienced by having to read a response of length, than I posit they are likely too immature to play a social game.

I was interested initally. To be honest I'm just gunna keep out of this conversation from now on. I'm not even going to go into detail on the few obvious flaws in that statement or the big assumptions made. I'd rather not waste my energy; I'll let someone else do that. Hopefully VR... see you around Tanix. o/
Fair enough, you then relinqusih any claim to the conversation. I respect that. Good day!
It's not a matter or length, but a matter of profusion and complete lack of goal despite spreading your own opinion. You're posting five time per page to answer only to remain stoic and static on your beliefs and discarding everything else.
Trust me, you're not the first one acting that way on theses forums and like most you will end fuel-less at some point, only to realize it changed nothing and still no one followed your own "truth". I mean, I see you're stubborn and I sure am too, but unfortunately as a vocal minority constantly hoarding thoses boards, we are ALL extremely stubborn and not prone to accept each other's opinion as equal to ours if it's not the very same, or follows the very roots of it.
Just to see for yourself, you started a quite long post on your interpretation of fun and gaming and you're clamining five page later how the emergence of player made servers are the future. Disgression is a thing but here we just walked miles around the "fun" word to end in a pretty cornered subject : Opening private servers for a game that isn't even released yet and stated to be "central server only" for it's scratch.

Not interpretation, but fact.
Again, you are entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts.
My end comments on private servers is an interest and a hope, but has nothing to do as a motive of my OP.
Well hello all!
I think Iksar captured the purpose of these forums best with this comment, which I edited to match our tenets:
I think a lot of us are missing the point unless the entire point is: "Here is my opinion on how the game should be, presented and pushed as though it were fact."
Opinions are important, that is why we are all here. However, this thread is going downhill fast into an argument, even though there is no right and wrong to be had in discussing what makes a game, or any form of entertainment, FUN. These forums are to discuss Pantheon specifically, and you'll all have PLENTY of time to offer your opinions on our Dev Team's decisions and directions for this game world as we continue to evolve, I promise.
I am going to gently close the door on this thread.
Tanix, you have some very interesting thoughts and may want to start an independent blog to discuss general game design. Better yet, start an indie game team to create a game! It is the best (and really only) method to determine if theories are valid. You may have to take on a dual role on a team, because there are generally a dozen game designers for every one in other roles, but it could be a fantastic experience for you.
