It was a dark and stormy night...

I love coming here and reading all of these posts.  Sometimes I even comment.  Recently, this gave me a fit of nostalgia and so, like many other lemmings, I downloaded and logged back in to EQ.  I didn't access my toon created in 1999.  I started over using all the "new" stuff (meaning anything that wasn't there at launch).  GloomingDeep or whatever it is called pretty much changed that noob experience for me.  By the time I left I was faarther along than I ever was in EQ The First Time.  Gear for slots thaty had never exhisted etc.  But I finaly did leave that area and arrived in some place I had never heard of.  Accidently clicked a tree trunk somewhere and wound up in Plane of Knowledge.  It was a LONG time in EQTFT before we had access to Knowledge but I recognized it still - and finaly made my way "home" to Erudin - or Toxx Forrest anyways.  I was sadly disappointed.  At launch, being from Erud and low-level meant that you were almost blind in the dark.  Toxx forrest was amazing in this regard and it resulted in playing in an almost dark zone.  Lighting was set off by insect with glowing effects.  Killing one of these had a chance of dropping an eye you copuld use so that you could see for a short range.  A friend of mine popped by and dropped off a Greater Light Stone and I was almost boss of the forrest then!  Forgive the rambling.  The point here is that I hope to see this type of lighting again.  The dark and foggy forrest of Toxx is now very light.  You can see halfway across the zone.  I lost the will to play almost immediately.  My fault for false expectations I suppose.  Please - consider lighting as you did way back when.  It is important.

Well fret no further. They talked about an enviroment where there is some sort of magical darkness to it. I know. very weird phrase. But they have stated in a few live streams of a totally pitch black zone that you might need to use spells to see a short range. Like a paladin using light type effects.

Yay, the other (or should i say the original) Neph is back :)

I agree that light and darkness should definitely matter and based on streams, I think they will, though we will have to see as we get into alpha and beta just how much.

I often worry about becoming a PITA for the DevTeam when I start Alpha.  And by the way - I never left.  I have been avoiding commenting a lot before that last stream, but watching them has really gotten me into it again.  I can't wait to Enchanter again.

There is much to be said for dark and stormy nights.

Reminds me of the story of a world that had devolved to feudalism after the breakup of much of galactic civilization. The warriors rode giant mutated canines instead of horses.

One of the local leaders refused to accept a supply of puppies that he considered poorly bred saying "I wouldn't send a knight out on a dog like this".

I haven't bothered to check but I believe that was from a collection of tales from the Hub - A Bertram Chandler. Story details revised a bit though the quotation is accurate enough.

I wouldn't worry.  Based on the few conversations I've had with team members here and in the VIP sections, they truly can't wait to get to alpha so they can get a lot more feedback. They seem to all be working super hard right now towards that goal :). Hopefully the wait won't be too hard!
