Discord, Teamspeak, in game chat....
Times have changed in the way we communicate in game. During my playing career in EQ1 there were no other options to communicate. You had to pay attention and read the chat. You also had to be able to type and play the game at the same time. If you were conducting raids, you'd have to dedicate a player to relay commands to the text box. Is this method oudated or do people still wish to use the text chat? I notice in most games now that a person tends to get ignored or overlooked unless they have a headset, not on purpose but people dont pay attention like they used to have to do.
Are any guilds using text as a main way to communicate or does everyone feel its "headsets all the way" or are any guilds going the old school route?
Sometimes the magic is in the mystery when it comes to people. Sometimes hearing a persons voice kind of kills the magic it that makes sense.
Thanks all,
Chryos
Some guilds use typed chat - they feel that voice separates those that can/will use it from those that cannot/willnot and splits the guild. Or they are roleplaying guilds and want to concentrate on the character not hear the player's voice. I will be looking for one of these guilds. Alas, most guilds use voice rather heavily.
Just a few threads down is this: -

Personally I only like to use them for real-life friends and even then, only when I feel like chatting too. It is handy for raid type encounters, but only for listening unless you are one of very few 'in charge'.
As in the thread above, I feel that making voice chat 'default' will actually be detrimental for a game like EQ, which, in regards to pacing and communication, Pantheon will largely be, I believe.
In the thread above my main concern boiled down to: if I don't use chat and others in the group do, I will get left out. How can that be avoided?
