So I was browsing around the REDDIT page and there was a post titled "Coveted game details?" and someone had quoted Brad from 2017 saying:

    """""

There ideally shouldn't be a set of abilities that is always optimal. It should change depending on where you are and what you are going up against.

We don't want it to be so key that you are messing with your character's configuration all of the time (needlessly tedious). Also any type of reconfiguration of your character, or anything really that you may end up doing relatively frequently needs to be supported by an intuitive and easy to use UI and interface. But on the opposite extreme we do want people to learn about encounters, figure out tactics, etc. again the more so the more significant the mob. As you learn a dungeon and master its significant or special encounters a big part of that process should be learning what kind of defensive and offensive capabilities these mobs have. Also, their disposition and behaviors. Running in blind or with minimal planning should put you at a disadvantage vs. the party that did plan.

    """""

This got me thinking, wouldn't it be pretty neat if we could set up 'go-bags' in game for different types of environments, mobs or raids?  For instance, you could have a go bag for "Fire Climate/Mobs" and in that bag have everything you would equip that had the right stats you wanted/needed for that type of client and that type of mob.  But not just to hold all these in the same bag, but to have a quick way to equip/un-equip them, so you don't spend a lot of time hunting/searching for the right gear.  This is sort of in-line with his "supported by an easy to use UI and interface" comment and I think it would be pretty cool.

"Hey everybody, grab your fire bags, we're going to XYZ, and grab your water bags too, we might go hunting for lost treasure after..."

    I'd be excited about that!

    Thoughts?

I would rather just be able to create "Sets", since there may be certain items that work in several sets.

Then you select the set when you want to change, although I do hope there is a time cycle on armor changes, so you can't change on the fly, but say a 10 second timer to actually complete the switch, and possibly not after you have entered combat.

At first I was against the idea, then read Fultons reply and I am agreeable with the idea as he has explained it.

I like that a lot actually, make it have a timer, and build them as sets.  Just like you said there will probably be items that will fit into multiple sets.  Nice, :)

I think being able to save and apply equipment sets would be fine as long as there are reasonable restrictions on when and where you can do it.

By that I mean I don't want to see people auto-swapping gear around in the middle of fights, especially not in macros.  This leads to stupid things like someone equipping all their strength gear and their strongest weapon in order to execute one attack, and then automagically swapping back to their normal set before their next attack.  Yeah, no.  That's not realistic.

Maybe a cooldown timer for each piece of gear you swap?  So you can change weapons, but you can't switch your hat for 30 seconds after you change weapons.  Or something.

I'm also not sure I want to see people swapping entire gear sets within dungeons or raids.  It gets a little silly.  I remember some raids in EQ2 where we'd say "ok, for this boss, everyone put on your poison resist gear" - followed by the sound of 30 people opening their bags and changing out all their jewelry.

I think part of having meaningful choices in the game should be an acknowledgement that you can't simply carry bags and bags of gear with you.  It's one thing to have a fire resist ring handy for when you see that boss spitting fireballs.  It's quite another thing to be carrying a full set of fire resist gear, plus a full set of cold resist gear, plus a full set of poison resist gear, plus a ... well you get the idea.  There needs to be a limitation on how much extra wardrobe you can bring with you to a dungeon or raid area, so that you are forced to make tradeoffs.
