A possible historical basis for Halflings

Based on some quick research and reading through the Forum posts, I've reached the conclusion that maybe the Halflings are more like the Picts of midieval England than D&D or EQ. The race is not made up of squat humans that sit around smoking pipes and fishing in the Tolken Hobbit prototype.

These are physically more like small Elves, but with a more primal nature. The facial tattoo may be the biggest hint. Picti is an old (3rd century) Latin word thought to mean "painted or tattooed people".

The Picts were also wide ranging and found in many parts of England so they were adaptive as well.

For all you Lore people out there, this could also be another source of content.

    Just my two coppers.

Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised. I know Istuulamae is quite the history buff and draws a lot of inspiration from real-life civilizations and cultures.
