Not sure if this has been discussed (did a search, found nothing), but what if we could have spirit pets that were a bit more baddarse than a wolf? I mean, the wolf was cool and all "back in the day", but what if we could have a minor demon as a spirit pet? Or a phoenix? Or a ? Discuss...

demons? That's hardly shaman-istic if you take a good look at various shaman cultures around the world. I'd say I would not mind seeing selecting from an assortment of animals throughout the world, within limits of course. I've leave out dragon or dragon kin or any creature that would be excessively large. Just for giggles I'd take a Carp as a spirit pet and be forced to carry it around in a fishbowl.

Shamans are often associated with being able to commune with evil spirits. But whether or not that's synonymous with demons is a different question. Either way, from what we've seen, Shamans in Pantheon actually don't seem to have much of an emphasis on that sort of thing. They seem more like Seers than witch doctors to me. I agree they should steer away from evil-type pets. Stick with pets that make sense with the Lore we've been provided, not just what the standard real-life definition of a Shaman is. So any type of ancestral or ghost animal would be cool. And avoiding pets that are excessively large is practical too.

Please note that a totem is not the same thing as a totem pole. Look it up, people.
Correct. I think alot of folks associate shaman+totem=World of Warcraft (not a knock against WoW, I actually found the shaman class to be difficult enough to make the game fun). I hope my shaman can pick a totem that is very similar to a bottle of bourbon...

Would be nice to see a different pet based on the race. That said, the wolf probably goes back to the old wolf pet from EQ.
What about picking a pet out of the environment you are in...Rocon needs a pet...ah that bat hanging in the cave there(ah it gives me night vision for in these dark locations)...Rocon needs another pet (buff the damn pet already so he doesn't keep dying)...look at that big horn ram over there(plus 10 to cold environment). Good idea? Bad idea?

Various type of animal spirits would be nifty. As a current shaman, I pretty much summon wolves which summon more wolves which turn me into a wolf haha. I would certainly enjoy other spirits such as bears, stags, eagles. Even the spirits of one's own ancestors would fit well.
I would definitly agree with you on the WoW totems @Anistosoles. Although they have toned it down signifigantly. They made the totems more specalized or they limited their avaliability through talent selections or role classification.
In Vanguard shamans could choose between three different totems to bond with -- bear, wolf and phoenix. They didn't follow you around physically but choosing that special spirit bond gave you a unique buff that you could bestow on your group. Wolf had a speed/melee buff, bear was a defensive buff and phoenix some caster buff. I don't remember exactly but it's beside the point.
I'm confident we will see something similar in Pantheon so you're not stuck with the wolf. I guess there will be a small number of totems to choose from and there's no reason to generally restrict totems to races. Possibly each race would have access to a unique totem.

i agree with you whole heartedly
that said shamans of pantheon are not at all like shamans in cultures around the world, and a demon would fit these new shamans perfectly. their class defining skill is a hex and they worship totems rather than what the totems represent after all. Demons could be considered spirits. It works out perfectly for our satan shamans.
