Never thought I'd say this, but, since Barbarians are not a race in this game, I am thinking of rolling with an...Ogre Shaman. It's not what I want, but the other race choices seem kinda...mehhh to me. What race will you choose?
If I do roll with an Ogre, thinking of naming him Itchee Bottumz.
The shaman will be an alt for me, but it will probably (hopefully?) be one of my more frequently played alts :)
I'm so flippant. I can't make a decision. Hell, I'm still waffling about playing a Shaman main >.<
I need to know a little bit more, especially regarding the Shaman races we've not yet seen. Though with that said, I can't even make a choice between the two races we have seen (Ogre and Archai)!
My first choice will be Ogre, but only because my expectations are that we will have Cannibalization like we had in EQ1. I expect the Ogre to have the highest base STA so that it's hitpoint pool will be the highest of any race yet the WIS for the manapool will be quite low, possibly lowest of all the races. Canni with a huge hitpoint pool is, to me, a better choice than a high base manapool with very low hitpoints.
Thus I see the Ogre Shaman and Elf Shaman being exact opposites of each other in this regard. I'll have to test out both to see which approach I prefer....if my assumptions end up being correct.

Very good point, Vandraad. And one of the reasons I, too, have thought of rolling with an ogre.

Good idea. Might have to fiddle with character creation during alpha/beta to see if I can make a "barbarianish shaman."

Very interesting. I honestly have no idea if Shamans with get Cannibalize, but I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if they did. And if they did, I bet you're spot on. Although I suspect that Skar may actually be the lowest base WIS race, but only by the little bit. They seem more reckless than the Ogres. The Ogre battle tactics would probably require a certain amount of wisdom. But the difference will probably be minimal. Anyway, I really like your thinking.

My thoughts exactly. When I think of a shaman, I see a bulky warrior clad in skins, bones, and animal skulls. Ogre is definitly my first choice, Human second since both can be potentially tribal. Skar are probably the most tribal, but they just feel too aggressive for my tastes.

Yea, I was never really even considering the elf but I didn't hate the elf shaman from the latest stream. I guess one more thing to consider :P
Also, Deathrite Shaman is sweet. I have a Deathrite Shaman playmat signed by the artist, Steven Argyle :D

Cool, I will try to remember to do so (these Rum & Cokes are going down smooothhhlllyy). However, I'm not a min/maxer and will choose my race based upon a)Lore b)Aesthetics. If I like seeing my character that I will be spending years with, not really concerned with getting a 3% advantage over another race. Gotta say, though, Ogres are looking good to me.

Yea for sure, I'm down. I'm so looking forward to having some actual gameplay/theory crafting discussions. I've loved these early years of development and being around from the beginning but man... it will be exciting to move onto the next stages.

I thought you were an Erudite pally? And everyone was a Ogre shaman... but us cool kids were iksar shamans :P
