What do you hope the Summoner will summon?

Great ideas! I am a little worried, that you will always see the same pet (but that is already the case). Also choosing the right buffs for some of the combinations might be challenging, since the tooltips of the spells will not tell you what stat buffs will be useful (since there are no spells for the combined pets). However, all of that is solvable!

I want to add that i would love to see some kind of utility added to the pets, to make it more valuable in specific situations. Fire pet might bring some light, air might work well against some toxic environment (just blow that stuff away), or the combined steam pet will give you a very soft and silky skin ... ok, forget that last one :)

In order to prevent one summon from taking all the glory there are solutions like: have all summons  aside visual espect be the same (which is obviously terrible idea), make elemental (and physical) resistances matter A LOT - so depending on the zone there would be a type preferred OR  similar to previous solution make their utility/cc capabilities matter.

You are right, there are some good ways to handle this.

One solution that i really like is to use the pets as an addition to the group, to support a role that is missing. If you feel that your healing power is not enough, summon a healing support pet. If you think you need more magical dps, summon the corresponding pet. If everything is in general ok and balanced, summon a pet with some aura or something like that. You can think of a lot of solutions, but there are a lot of combinations of pets.

I know this is not as intended at the moment, but theorycrafting is a fun thing to do

The thing about Pantheon is, that spells are not always just given to you by your trainer in your hometown. The spell to summon a mount can cause teh "wtf did THAT spell drop" feeling. The downside is indeed, that it would be a class-only-mount. However, this has been done in EQ as well (for SK and Pally per AA).

I agree, that a mount is a big topic, and you should not get it easily. But since there are epic spells and epic skills, that you can only learn with great effort, I would just see a summoned mount as a summoner only mount that is still hard to get. Its just a different way to get to the mount.

Absolutely love summoner/mage style pet classes. Got addicted to the class style in EQ and it's run all the way through every game with me since.

I think having the summoner having a source of his powers is important so I'm all for the elemental side of it. I'm not really in to the summoned monster idea. You have to be able to summon FROM something after all. I'd be excited to see this go further and any summoned weapons be a curved shaped sword made of flames, and a icicle piercing dagger, rock hammer, an arrow summoned from the air with the speed and properties of the wind, etc! All giving different benefits.

The summoned walls sound properly interesting, pulling stalagmites up from the floor to criss-cross infront of or around mobs, awesome and unique crowd control ability. But this could go further and the damage spells could be related too. 'Fire' spells are always around in games, but we could be summoning a pin pointed earthquake, pulling oxygen out of the air around a mob or boiling or freezing the water in their body.

Ultimately I think anything we summon should be grounded in that fantasy. That they're formed from the four elements we control (which is, I know, in theory what everything is formed from anyway) but to keep that feel. Don't just 'summon a bandage'. Summonable fire shields on weapons as well as players for a little extra dPS? Summonable stone skin for a little extra AC. Summoned flames that follow us around for light sources!!!

I do hope we get to summon ourselves in to our elemental forms, though. That was one of my favourite looks back in EQ, floating around as a water elemental (can you tell from my profile pic lol). As long as we have a toolbox of summoning spells that can be used well but hard to master in lots of different situations that would be awesome.

As for summoned mounts? Hmmmmm, YES it would be awesome, but I wouldn't want it to trivialise mounts and travel too much. I think i'd prefer elemental form tbh....

I hope the summoner makes a lot of QoL items for various tasks that can be discarded easily when we have problems.  Those are my favorite items for RPing and for just ease of gameplay.  In the end it amounts to having carrying capacity which is not all that gamebreaking for a caster who has low STR, but it is also limited to items they hand off so it can't be abused by moving valuable items around.

Ladders, walls, and boats are cool, but I prefer the simple mundane items in the same vein of the environmental armor I would like the summoner to summon basic tools of all sorts.  Harvesting, climbing picks for the ice areas, lights, bandages,  If throwing/shooting has ammo then summon it for the party.  Be the king of the mundane items.

(It sounded like they are strongly considering letting everyone have every harvesting option with then having specialists needed for difficult tasks. if this is not the case then they become worthless summons we do not need)

I love the idea of secondary support, in your post you spoke of "healing support pet". Unfortunately the class desciption I found here and on the dedicated wiki states quite clearly that the Undine can only heal yourself and YOUR arcamentals, not other pets nor other players. I would sell my grandma's soul for having this come true even if it is ineffective and way weaker as real healer classes healing. Yay, secondary, baby !

I'd love them to be able to summon demonic or celestial entities.

Honestly, if they just conjure elementals, ... it's pretty boring it's merely an elemental wizard with a pet.

@Khraag - I agree.  I think they could've had the Druid use elemental pets (water being their means of healing, fire DPS, Earth absorb skins, wind for teleporting/travel and maybe allow them to have a couple out at a time) and had the summoner summon some really cool monsters/other worldly beings.

But they will likely summon elementals for pets (with the exception of the monster for the ENC to charm...)

I want to be able to summon a mirror.
