VRI developers, how do you stay focused/enthusiastic?

I mean, here I am brainstorming away and thinking " wouldn't it be cool if this, wouldn't it be cool if that, wouldn't it be cool when this.. "

But I assume in development there are only so many cool things that can be realized in game, "Many are cool, but few are chosen"

(the quote is" Many are called, but few are chosen" the joke is " Many are cold, but few are frozen")

How do you set realistic, yet at the same time cool-achieving, boundaries? While at the same time keeping everyones spirits up?

I know there is pay .... but I am talking about; can you describe in general terms the positive feedback that you are getting from developing in PantheonRoTF?  - without breaking any NDA.

I'm hoping that the Friday Twitch stream they might answer some questions from the comments. That would be pretty sweet.

I'd also be very interested to hear the answer to this question. There have been some great ideas on this forum and it would be cool to know what the decision process was for picking out the best ideas.

I imagine they can accomplish most of the core requirements we are all looking for...  The only thing I can see as limiting is the Unity engine and what they can accomplish graphically and how it relates to smooth gameplay.  Optimization will take some time down the road.

I am soooooooooo mad I have to miss the stream Friday.  I really do hope the whole thing makes it on video.

For the 30 mins we are unshackled from our desks each day, most of us enjoy small amounts of sunshine via crowding around the single office window and a bowl of water we share until we are swiftly ushered back to our desk chains by the sounds of cracking whips and yelling! ;)

I think a good sense of humour, a healthy passion for the job you do (it's not really a job if you enjoy it!) and the huge amounts of teamwork and support from each other is what helps me the most. That and lot's of coffee!

We all hit flat spots and burnout in life, it's only natural but when working so closely with others who share your passion and desire to succeed it helps you gain drive, focus and motivation that is hard for anyone to take away from you :)

I have passed this onto the rest of the team so hopefully, if they can pick the locks on the chains they will join me in replying lol

Setting up realistic, but cool mechanics all comes down to the approach to the planning itself; just as much as the approach to implementing the mechanic. We keep ourselves oriented on the over all goals and intentions of the game, when we get to a certain point it's important take a look back at those goals and intentions and ask "Does this mechanic clearly do/achieve that?". It them becomes a logistical break down of components and logic between the programmers and tools. Others on the team may be able to provide more detail on that, but its all about distilling things into their basic components and building something beautiful with the parts.

I can't speak for us all on how we individually keep our spirits up, but I think we all love doing this, the game, and our community; those things provide constant fuel. I found that a healthy work/life balance is really important, especially when you are so driven and focused. You can overwork yourself before you realize you have. On the weekends I like to put away some time to go back and play some of my favorite games, keep perspective and have some fun. Making a game definitely has you start seeing them differently, I find it helpful and refreshing to suspend that for a bit and just get pulled into a great game. They are a ton of work, and I find it easy to subconsciously associate games with work, even in leasure time!
